N2 randomly crashes

Post by cap_cap »

Hi there,

I experienced that on the stock OS (supplied on the blank unit), seeing this after recentl migrating to CoreElec: system turns off. This usually happens on 1080p video, but sometimes happens on 720p too. May happen on Youtube videos, but of Add-on streaming too (various). My best guess this is PSU problem. Hardkernel team please give your suggestions.
The only external device i have plugged in is the radio adaptor for a keyboard.

Thank you

Actually it must be something different, not the power supply. I found among my old scrap an old speaker's adaptor, it had slight lower power (1800A vs 2000A) but i guess it wasn't really much matter for the experiment. The unit turned off when i played a hi-res video. The thing which upset me the most is that it doesn't happen at same spot/same video/after same amount of runtime. No consistency I'd have found at all.

Which CoreELEC version do you run?

Do you have a DMM to measure the voltage on 5.0V rail of the 40pin GPIO header?

CE ver is 9.2.4.2
I do have DMM and I'll get you the numbers requested a bit later. While trying various things around the box I found couple strange moments I haven't noticed before. First is that when the system goes down (as I thought) the session actually stayed alive: leds kept on indicating work-ok solid red and blinking blue. In some cases i was able to retrieve the picture on the screen by unplagging the hdmi-cable and plugging it back into a different port. Important is that the cable had to be disconnected on the Odroid end, not one one the TV.
Second thing is that seems trouble occurs less often if i keep the system running without the sliding portion of the case cover. The latter doesn't make much sence to me. N2 is reasonably cold model, i touched the key components and could not find anything hot.

I'm about to spend a day or two more to find a pattern and let you know.

No, it seems that dismounted cover is no much of help. The system went down (or if you prefer stopped showing picture on the screen) after a few.

Here're the development notes:
1. Voltage on 5V pins (checked ## 2 and 4) are rated, no problem
2. The systems is not crashing, it's my TV that stops showing the picture
3. This is happening every time when the system changes mode/resolution. This includes turning the TV off: when I wake it up, it shows "No video Signal"
4. I borrowed my son's monitor and plugged it in when the system stopped broadcasting: it shown picture no issues.

Maybe my TV thinks that changing the mode/resolution is signal to hibernate. Any idea how could i resolve this?

It might be a Hot-Plug-Detect signal compatibility issue.
Can you find "disablehpd" option in boot.ini or config.ini file?

You need to login remotely via SSH connection probably.
Or, connect your eMMC to your host PC and find the file in the boot partition.

I think CoreELEC seems to have a slightly different settings in the .ini files from our official OS images.

Try editing boot.ini file line 43.

From
setenv bootargs "${initargs} ${displayopt} ${coreelec}"
To
setenv bootargs "${initargs} ${displayopt} ${coreelec} disablehpd=true"

Okay I keep this for my next step. Last night i was playing around and set the screen rate to 59.94 Hz. Surprisingly so far the problem didn't come up again -knock on the wood. I was going to keep on testing, if this isn't cure, I'll do what you suggested. Thank you
