Device is 800x480 7 inch HDMI capacitive touch LCD powered over USB from Odroid-n2 and should show up as Dwav Scientific as it did on the Odroid-C2

What was VID/PID of the touchscreen controller on the C2?
Which Kernel version do you run on your N2?

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0eef:0005 D-WAV Scientific Co., Ltd --- This is from a running Odroid-C2 with VERSION="20.04.2 LTS (Focal Fossa)" -- kernel 3.16.85-65 and same type of LCD screen, also touch not working.

Try changing disable_vu7 option in config.ini file.

Code: Select all

; Hardkernel ODROID-VU7 support
; By default VU7 support is disabled
disable_vu7=true

Changed it to false in /usr/share/bootini/config.ini still lsusb doesn't see it.
What is strange is this STM device I don't have is reported by lsusb.

The USB ID seems to be registered by other hardware vendor long time ago and the touchscreen manufacturer just used the same ID.
https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id=usb:0483-5750

Where did you buy the strange display?
As far as I remember, our Vu7A+ VID:PID is 16B4:0705 and the obsoleted old Vu7 was 0EEF:0005.

That's the case on the -C2 but not on the -N2.
On the -N2 it's seeing that VID-PID as the STM mini LED display, verified by unplugging the LCD.
I am going to change that with the LCD on a Raspberry Pi 4B which sees DWAV with this one and see what each reports.

It's the LCD, it reports on the Pi4B as STM.
The Pi4B LCD on the -N2 reports as DWAV.

In that case, USB ID database in the Linux Kernel might be different between 3.16 and 4.9(or higher).

This is weird --- I have a Pi4B with Ubuntu that shows the same usbid but touch works -- kernel 5.11.0-1017-raspi
Jetson Nano SDK --- kernel 4.9.201-tegra -- same usbid -- touch does not work.
Same for the -N2 - kernel 4.9.231-67
Odroid-C2 --- kernel 3.16.85-65 ---- Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0eef:0005 D-WAV Scientific Co., Ltd ---- xinput_calibrator --list says not found.

Try @tobette's Ubuntu 21.04 image which comes with a Kernel 5.12 or higher to narrow down root causes.

Thanks, with Ubuntu 21.10 touch works just the same as the Pi4 though it also reports a STM LED badge.

I think your touchscreen seems to be compatible with Kernel 5.10+ and/or Kernel 3.16 only.
Try to keep using that new image if you don't mind.

Sure, I always prefer the latest. As a mainline kernel tester, 3 of my x86_64 boxes are already up on 5.15-rc1.
