What's do you mean?
2004 / 1992 were the max freq for the overclock tried on ODROID-N2.

Another freq over than 2004 / 1992 are like this and you could try at your own risk.

Code: Select all

161 PLL_RATE(1992000000ULL, 166, 1, 1), /*DCO=3984M*/
162 PLL_RATE(2004000000ULL, 167, 1, 1), /*DCO=4008M*/
163 PLL_RATE(2016000000ULL, 168, 1, 1), /*DCO=4032M*/
164 PLL_RATE(2100000000ULL, 175, 1, 1), /*DCO=4200M*/
165 PLL_RATE(2196000000ULL, 183, 1, 1), /*DCO=4392M*/
166 PLL_RATE(2292000000ULL, 191, 1, 1), /*DCO=4584M*/

Only Set it to

setenv max_freq_a73 "2100"

Right?

In CoreElec ofcourse, isn't this a CoreElec topic? ;)

You SSH to the box and run above commands.

Since you don't seem to be expert in linux, what do you hope to gain from overclocking on an OS meant for media consumption on a system that doesn't use the cpu for media playback? You'll only bound to get instability.

Since GUI (with all skins) is drown with GPU then there is no effect on scrolling or any other GUI task with increasing CPU clock frequency ;)

There are a setting to set the clock but I think it is lacking dtb changes. At least with 3.14 it was possible.

Didn't you ask me that on CE forum already :D?
Or was is someone else?
I will look into it when I have some time.
Hi again ... my vacation's over so now I kindly ask: did u perchance have any time to take a look into that? ;-)

I have no access to CoreELEC source because I was removed from the project. You have to request this feature on their forum.

Hi all, i just installed coreelec on my n2 and everything runs fine until i try to play any video file from a usb stick. The file starts, freezes for a while and then tells me it has ejected my usb stick.
Anybody else ?
All runs fine over the network, and i have ubuntu running from an external usb drive, so no usb probs.
Tried 9.0.3 and nightly, flashed clean
Ideas ? Thank you....

Try if it works OK from the front USB2 port.

Anyway, ask your question on CoreElec forum (https://discourse.coreelec.org), as there are many more users & developers that might know what is the problem.

You can even play 8K videos from YouTube. But the g12b SoC in Odroid N2 can't do it. The revb or the A311D SoCs can do it.
VP9 can't do HDR at the moment. There is a bug that stops it from working. I managed to get it to work but it's not refined yet.

I have some tested to check audio passthrough using CoreELEC 190508 version.

We have a Yamaha RX-V585 audio receiver that supports DTS:X and Dolby Atmos.
Is there a trick to getting all of those options under audio passthrough? Mine (9.0.3 stable and nightly from 28/8/19) only offers AC3 and DTS.
Also, I only get audio with 2 channel no passthrough. Anything else, including passthrough, just squeaks and buzzes.
EDIT: The solution was for me to choose the correct 'audio passthrough device'. The N2 has a *SPDIF output as well as *HDMI

Hi can anyone help me out with this:

I have a 21:9 Display with a resolution of 3440x1440. With my x86 linux laptop i"m able to drive it via HDMI@3440x1440p44hz using some arcane xrandr magic. I have not been able to do the same with Coreelec on the odroid n2. I just get a garbled mess instead of an image when i try to manually set that resolution. Since the Odroid n2 supports HDMI2.0 it should (theoretically) be possible to run it at 60hz over HDMI at native resolution. Has anyone got an idea if and how to get that to work?

@dtx Can you ssh into the n2 and while it's displaying the "garbled mess" and run `dispinfo` then post the url that it provides here. (dispinfo collects display related debug info and uploads it to a pastebin site for easy posting on the form.)

How are you trying to manually set the resolution? Also is the display directly connected to the hdmi port on the n2 or is it connected through an AVR or some other type of adapter.

Yes.

dispinfo@1080p60hz (working)

http://ix.io/1UgC

dispinfo@3440x1440p60hz (broken)

http://ix.io/1UgF

> How are you trying to manually set the resolution?

I am creating a disp_cap file in /storage/.kodi/user_data, then set the resolution in the UI.

> Also is the display directly connected to the hdmi port on the n2 or is it connected through an AVR or some other type of adapter.

On ManjaroARM i was able to set the resolution to 3440x1440p60Hz via setenv_hdmimode in boot.ini and it worked, however it forced the display into HDR mode and that made the colors look all washed out and its too bright. I am using a direct hdmi cable connection.

Looking at the dispinfo output. It looks like your hdmi output is staying at 1080p60hz probably because the kernel doesn't know about the 3440x1440p60hz video mode, but it is still trying to display 3440x1440 content, hence the garbled mess.

I'll look into adding the video mode to the kernel, and make a test build for you to try. If that works then I will see that support gets added to CoreELEC.

The new 9.2.0 stable release of CoreELEC is now available.

For everyone on the previous stable release with auto updates turned on, you should get an update notification in the next couple of days.

For those that would rather manually update or can't wait for the new release it can be downloaded here
NOTE: just a reminder when downloading the update files, If you have an Odroid-N2 you want to use the "amlogic-ng" update files, otherwise if you have a C2 you want to use the "amlogic" update files.

The release notes can be read here

Important: It's recommended that before you update that you disable any binary addons that may be started before kodi can update it's addons. such as the vfs addons like vfs.sftp. Then after the update make sure you refresh your addon repositories and install any updated addons, before re-enabling them.

@dtx I didn't forget about you. It was just a matter of bad timing. Internal testing began on the new release before I had a chance to work on adding the new resolution to the hdmi drivers.

Once the dust settles down from the new release, this is top of my list to work on for 9.2.1

Thank you so much. Please don't think of me as pushy or expecting something, i'm just anxious to have coreelec on my n2 working as a media player for my new hifi setup :D My current notebook can only drive the display at 44hz which leads to really annoying tearing artefacts when playing movies. So the N2 is the only device I own that is really capable of running the display somewhat decently.

@dtx

Instead of directly adding the 3440x1440p60hz video mode to the kernel, I took it as an opportunity to look into adding custom video mode support to CoreELEC.

If you:
  • Install this image, (preferable on a blank micro sd and not over top of your existing install.)
    CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-9.2-devel-1569372808-Odroid_N2.img.gz
  • Add the following to your config.ini

    Code: Select all

    modeline="3440,1440,319750,88819,60,3440,3520,3552,3600,1440,1468,1478,1481,1,0,1"
  • Reboot
  • Goto Settings/System/Display/Resolution and select 3440x1440p
This should let you switch to 3440x1440p60hz (Which hopefully works :) , I unfortunately don't have a monitor that supports that resolution to test with)

It is almost impossible due to very different I2S interface implementation.

Hey @cdu13a!

I tried modeline support and that die indeed work, however the modline you provided isnt quite right. I think the horizontal clock is off. I had a few issues writing my own modine with output from CVT. Could you perhaps describe how you generated your suggested modeline?

Thx

@dtx

This might help you figure out the modeline stuff. https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-c2/appli ... utosetting It's for the C2 but it is somewhat relevant to your situation on the N2.

Start and End Timings are not always shown with timing info but are pretty much as follows
Start = Active + Sync Offset
End = Start + Sync Pulse

The following modeline may be better as it is based on the 3440x1440@60hz Reduced Blanking timings from the 3.14 C2 kernel. https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/blo ... 1255-L1283
modeline="3440,1440,319750,88820,60,3440,3488,3520,3600,1440,1443,1453,1481,1,0,1"

Which exact monitor are you using? Do you know if 3440x1440@60hz is within it's ability over HDMI? some 21:9 monitor's could only do their full capability over DisplayPort.

Why does my N2 reboot when I remove the meson_ir module?

Code: Select all

rmmod meson_ir
It is repeatable.

I'm trying to get ir-keytable to work and I can't because of lirc, I'm not understanding why. I'm also not understanding why the reboot when the meson_ir module is not in use when I remove it.

I think that maybe it's because it changes u-boot, but You'll get a proper answer at CE forum https://discourse.coreelec.org/

No it happens on a running system, nothing to do with uboot.

I'm fine waiting for an answer here but I appreciate the link.

Are you meaning that N2 instantly reboot or panic when 'meson_ir' driver is removed?
Which OS are you running with now?

It instantly reboots as soon as I remove the module.

I running the latest CoreELEC nightly that auto updates, it's version:

Code: Select all

CoreELEC (official): nightly_20191010 (Amlogic-ng.arm)

CoreELEC:~ # uname -a
Linux CoreELEC 4.9.190 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Oct 11 02:06:07 CEST 2019 aarch64 GNU/Linux

Hi @rooted

It's a holiday weekend here(Canada does thanksgiving in October) so I might not be able to get to it right away but I will try to reproduce this, and see what I can do about it.

By the way If you don't want meson_ir to load you can disable it by creating a file named remote.disable in either the /flash/ or /storage/.config/ directories.

For example touch /storage/.config/remote.disable then rebooting will disable meson_ir.
