Wifi doesn't find new access points

Post by benwillcox »

Hi,

I reported an issue about the wifi in my thread here: viewtopic.php?f=178&t=34576 but as it's been quite some time without being addressed, I expect it's getting lost.

I've updated to the latest 20190603 version but the problem still exists - when a new wifi access point appears, the Odroid doesn't see it until you reboot the Odroid.
For example, when I power up the Odroid first time I see all the access points in range. Then when I switch on my portable wifi hotspot, this never appears in the list of wifi networks until the Odroid is rebooted. Then it will immediately auto-connect.
I am using a RT5370N based wifi module.

Thanks
Ben

Our WiFi module 0 (RT5370N) works with N2 Android out of the box.
https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/wifi-module-0/

Open the Terminal app and run "lsusb" command to check the VID/PID.
It must be VID:PID = 148F:5370. Otherwise, your WiFi dongle might have a different chipset.

My device is 148F:5370

I have found that some wifi access points are detected, and some are not. If I enable wifi Personal Hotspot on my iPhone 7 then the network is not seen until I reboot the Odroid, then it immediately appears in the list. If I turn the Personal Hotspot off and then back on, it never appears again in the list until a reboot. The same happens with my Huawei E5573 3G mobile hotspot.

Is there a way to get any debug logs to see why the networks on these devices are not detected correctly?

Thanks,
Ben

If USB 3.0 port causes uncertain RF interference against 2.4Ghz, try an OTG-Host cable something like this. https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/usb2-0-otg-cable/
Refer this thread too.

Hi I tried this but I don't think it's the issue as the behaviour is just the same. The wifi works perfectly as long as the access point is broadcasting when the Odroid boots, but otherwise it does not detect it.
Even going into 'Saved Networks' the access point details are in there but there is no option to connect. As soon as I reboot the network is immediately found and auto-connects.

Is there some debug information I can capture to see what the issue is?

Thanks,
Ben

If you have an ADB connection, capture logcat and dmesg outputs from the ADB shell after some trying of WIFI AP connections.
We will look into the system log early next week.

Here's the logcat output.

1st file - currently connected to wifi network 'BTWholeHome-83W', then I switch on access point named 'My Wifi'. I wait for a while, then in Odroid settings I turn wifi off then on, 'My Wifi' still never appears in the list of networks:

2nd file - reboot the Odroid, it immediately connects to 'My Wifi':

Hi, Mrgreen01.
Which wifi module do you use?
If you have OTG cable, try to move USB port to OTG port.

I think the random reboots was related to usb debugging which I turned off in developer settings since turning back on no more reboots
