I have several problems in this and other versions of android tv on Odroid N2:
1) sometimes the tv remote does not control android tv (as if hdmi cec did not always work with my tv), restarting the system solves the problem.
2) sometimes when you turn on tv, there is no image from android tv, helps turn off and on odroid n2
3) sometimes turning off the device does not turn off the android tv (again problems with hdmi cec?)
4) No 5.1 audio with hdmi. Forcing codecs in the system settings causes an intermittent sound.
Is it all I have? :)
Despite all the problems, all is well done by Voodik, the system is great :)
Are you talking about Lineage-17.1 ATV ROM ?
if yes you post in wrong forum. This is non ATV thread.

BTW.
I don't have a HDMI-CEC supported TV and cannot debug CEC or 5.1 issues.
is this issues persist on AOSP version of ATV image ?

@voodik Good job for porting and updating android versions for this board!
I don't have an N2 yet, but I was hoping that it would be possible to watch live broadcast tv from android TV (DVB-t2). Is it possible with this version? I cannot find anyone showing it on the web. More interestingly, Voodik mentions tvheadend addon on the first post, so does that mean the server is preinstalled? Can I just whatch tv with google's live tv app, or KODI?
The thing is that it is not for me, and it would be best to just run android and dual-boot with coreelec.
Which Dvb-t2 dongle you have?
I have two xbox one usb tuners. It was recommended because it is supported in many system bluilds I tested it, and it works out of the box on libre/coreelec.
Nobody can answer me? Can and how can I watch broadcast tv on android tv itself? Can recordings also be made? Is this generally easy on android tv?

You need to install it by yourself and use the patched magisk zip file from 2nd post. I recommend to install the zip by adb sideload method.

But it seems not to work. After installing now the second time the patched Magisk-signed.zip on this v0.2, MagiskManager shows that Magisk is not installed.

Magisk need to patch our dtb. After introducing dtb overlays it can't patch it. I need more deep investigate Magisk code to understand how do this. So for now for v0.2 root is anavailable.

Hello!

I hope someone may have an answer or some direction for me as I am getting lost. I want my N2+ to have a running fan. This isn't the case at all as I have yet to see it spin under android or ubuntu. There was this one time wherein a terminal I got it to work but it was not permanent. Apparently, if I had su access, I could pull the terminal and change the temp settings? Well, I would like to get my fan to run.

viewtopic.php?f=178&t=39715&p=301262&hi ... an#p301262

I would like to continue down my rabbit hole, but I can't seem to figure out how to get ROOT on this N2+ running lineageOS. Can someone give me some direction or tell me what to do?

I've tried using the new Magisk.. It's still not working. Am I not suppose to try to update the system with it?

OK, I got it to work without having to use my PC, that was super complicated.

I was doing a bunch of things wrong.

1. I was not in debugging mode.
2. When I finally got there I then realized there was a terminal and all that.
3. Even though it failed you can install it from the device as long as you apply update from internal storage it gets the job done.

For me it worked to install this zip by adb sideload. But I had to repeat it, because the first try resulted in error.
Then I was surprised that my app GpioShutdownService crashes. I rooted it down to a conflict of wiringPi with new model string ODROID_N2Plus.
For those that are using my app, here is a version that works on the N2Plus: viewtopic.php?p=142427#p142427

The ROM is real nice. Everything I've tried to use has worked (except for the odroid bluetooth module from Ameridroid), but I am having an issue with RetroArch64. Does anyone have experience with this app? I am able to run the app, and get my library and 8bitdo controller setup, but then after I run a game and close the app, or restart my system, RetroArch no longer acccepts input from my keyboard & my controller. I've tried clearing the cache and the storage but the only thing that allows me to get it to accept input again is reinstalling the app from scratch. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I am starting to wonder if I should just use standalone emulators instead of RetroArch on Android.

Worth checking the following if you have not done so

Add your controllers and map accordingly.
Then in the menu goto - Main Menu - Configuration File - Save Current Configuration

Also check

Settings - Configuration - Save configuration on quite should be set to ON. Check yours to see if it is set to off.

Also worth setting up from scratch and checking the above as uninstalling the app does not remove the folder in your sd card called retroarch (so remove this manually), but if you have done a lot of setting up then obviously dont do this lol

All i can say is i have used this rom in the ATV version by Voodik and retroarch remembers my bluetooth Xbox controller fine

However if you are only playing older games say up to PSX possibly dreamcast, and want the full retro experience i would consider a EMUELEC install to a sd card or usb drive and dual boot. Then you will have a nice frontened and the setup is purely for retrogaming

I reallly want to use the ATV version of this ROM, but I can't get it connected to WiFi. I can input text into the password field, but it won't allow me to enter it to connect. I don't have a hardwire available in my living room where I want to keep the board. So it's not just the actual controller itself, it's ANY input at all.

Can someone advise if this ROM is stable enough compared to the 16.0 PIE version? I use it primarily for Kodi and Emulation. Many thanks in advance.

I am giving it another shot now. I want the drivers that come with this ROM. I will have to make RetroArch work. Are you using RetroArch64 or the regular 32bit?

Re: [ROM][LineageOS 17.1][Android 10.0][voodik] for the ODROID-N2

Post by squidd »

I've decided to try standalone emulators. RetroArch has gotten hacked, and i couldn't even download the cores yesterday lol. But the standalone emulators seem to be working well, though. Can anyone give me any direction with magisk? the process is-

1- download the latest magisk zip that was posted most recent in this thread - "https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TIo3Q ... hWXuXN7U7R" and install the magisk apk

2- use the dd command supplied in this and other threads to put the boot img into the downloads folder

3- from adb shell on my computer, reboot fastboot

My n2+ does reboot at that point, but locks up on the hard kernel boot splash screen, and doesn't actually go into fastboot. the indicator light goes solid blue.

Also, am trying to do all of this from Arch Linux, so I don't have ADB and fastboot installed on the system, they are just executable scripts, so i need to have a terminal open in the directory where I have the files, and use ./adb shell and the commands aren't recognized by my system unless I am in that directory. Not sure if that is making a difference. I have also tried to dd the image from an adb shell not in fastboot.

The way i did it on the ATV was far simpler.

In developer options in setting switch on local terminal so that you have the terminal app in your app draw
Download the file voodik posted and store in downloads folder
open terminal up and type reboot recovery
in recovery click an option that is named something like install from internal or sd card (cant remember exactly)
navigate to the file you downloaded and click yes

Reboot and magisk is installed as is magisk manager.

I would expect it to be the same for the non atv version.

Should be noted if you get an error on reboot command not known, you may need to enter the path first which i cannot remember off the top of my head

I've been using reboot fastboot, not recovery, maybe that is the issue. But i've also been patching the boot img before attempting to reboot to fastboot/recovery. I am going to run downstairs now and try to reboot recovery from the terminal in android.

You dont need to use fastboot or another pc, it can all be done from the N2 thats where you turn on local terminal . Voodiks file is a packaged file which is best flashed in recovery, the other thread was not relevant for Voodiks file.

For info i was testing that other thread on a test install on secuflags version but for the life of me none of my machines would adb in so reverted back to my backup and will wait for the update to roll in

I also notice on Odroids latest release they include root as standard so future roms should be easier

@squidd, in the main menu of recovery you go to 'apply update'. Then you can choose either 'Apply from ADB' or 'Choose from internal storage'. If you selcet 'Apply from ADB' you can use adb on a different machine and there you give the command 'adb sideload Magisk-N2-new-signed.zip'. I had to do it two times, because it made error at first time. Of course the OTG cable mus be plugged in and the adb driver must be installed on your remote machine.
If you use 'Choose from internal storage' you need to copy the zip to the right place before. I never used this method.

And yes, there is the stock Android 9 from Hardkernel, last update you find on the wiki pages. This has SuperSU and Magisk is not needed for root.

Thank you. I do have the UART kit. I have Arch Linux on my desktop, so I don't have ADB installed on the system to run the commands directly as an installed application in my terminal, so I need to be working from the platform-tools directory. I think that has been causing me to have different issues than others have been experiencing. If I have any more issues trying to get magisk here, I will install ADB on one of my windows Machines so the process will be more straight forward.

Btw, in regards to these images, HK should consider these Lineage ROMs as official. They are up to date and we'll supported. I have tried HKs official images, they are clean, but Android 9 is getting old now. I am posting this message from a device that's running Android 11 😎

No

Hardkernels stock image dated the 16th of august i think has root in stock as per their changelog.

So that may apply to secuflags base rom ongoing but probably not this fork

Spot on yep, if i recall right you can browse your internal storage via apply update from internal i think i dropped mine both in download and sd root but been a while so cant remember which one, but it was far easier than via adb for me as neither of my machines would not see the N2+ as a device in adb,

Can someone just give me confirmation on whether we can get magisk on this version. Reading all the posts has me a bit confused (it also doesn't help that im a bit of a noob.)
If it is possible maybe a quick (easy) how to?

Yes, Voodik posts his file in the roiginal post

All i did on the ATV version of this rom was

1) Download file to SD card (i placed it in downloads)
2) Goto Settings - Developer options (if dev options is not showing goto software info and tap Build Number / Name five times and go back to main settings menu)
3) Turn on Local Terminal to give you a terminal emulator
4) Open App draw and click Terminal
5) Type reboot recovery and hit enter
6) Device should reboot into recovery select Install update (or similar phrase) Then it may say from Adb or Internal
7) Click Internal and navigate to where you downloaded the file in step 1
8) Confirm installation and reboot

Im sure it will be the same for this version as Voodiks ATV same base same recovery i believe

I don't have a hardwire available in my living room where I want to keep the board. So it's not just the actual controller itself, it's ANY input at all.
I had same issues with wifi was able to connect via Ethernet initially and download app Android TV keyboard and switch keyboard over to that keyboard instead of the included leanback keyboard and was able to input password and click the next and connected successfully via wifi

I have everything set up pretty well on the regular image. I'd hate to have to go back through and start from scratch. I wish there was a way to enable the desktop mode though.

Wow. Horrible. I had everything set up so well, my daughter was using it to watch YouTube, and we had a power spike, and now the N2+ is booting to a black screen when trying to boot the anrdroid image. I can select Android in petitboot, but then get a black screen. Anyway to recover without starting over?

Try fsck-ing the filesystems and maybe clearing/formatting the cache.

Not that it will help you now, but i always do a full disk copy using DD command on Linux so that any tinkering i do i know if it gets borked i can just restore the image. Hopefully you can recover it though

nice advice guys, thank you. it's only a 16GB emmc, I'm gonna save a copy of the full disk image on my NAS right now. e2fsck -p /dev/sd* worked like a charm.

I keep coming back with questions, but do you guys know what the driver situation would look like if you did a Linux deploy on top of this image? Would we still have access to the Vulkan driver?

You can have access to /dev, but you can't use accelerated rendering. What's your use case?

@voodik If I were to install your rom on N2+ can I later transfer it by swapping emmcs to an N2?

I would presume it should work, im using the atv version which is not updated yet for the N2+ and works fine on both.
