N2 power consumption, technical question

Post by macey »

Technical question regarding N2 power performance. Hello, I'm running an N2 with a battery pack which has a variety of output voltages between 5 and 20 volts. Can anyone tell me which voltage will give the longest battery life without sacrificing performance? 5v, 8.4v, 9v,12v,16.5 and 20v.. Yes, I know I could trial it myself.😳😂

First of all, do not connect higher than 18Volt source. Otherwise, you will damage the N2 board,
And the minimum stable working voltage is 7.5 volt.

I think 7.5 ~ 12.5 volt could have slightly higher power conversion efficiency than 12.6~18.0 volt.
But the difference could be very negligible.

Ok, if I run at 8 volt instead of 12 volt, will there be any performance degradation?

Nope. The system performance doesn't depend on the input voltage.

Ok,so if I drop the voltage to 8 volts from 12 , the current drain will either stay the same or go down, right? So, overall, power consumption should reduce, correct?

Nope.
Your N2 consumes about 8 Watt with some very heavy computing CPU/GPU loads without USB devices.
If your PSU output voltage is 8V, the current drain is around 1Amp.
If your PSU output voltage is 12V, the current drain is around 0.7mp.

Hi. Sorry to bumb into this topic.
I'd like to know the power consumption of the N2+. I can't find it anywhere.
I'd like to know the idle consumption, consumption with cpu's maxed out at default clocks, and at OC clocks.
Without wifi/external USB3 drives attached please.

I'd have to cut my PSU cable to measure since I don't have a clamb meter.
It's for my review video on the N2+ that's coming in a few days.
Greetings, NicoD

The power consumption difference between N2 and N2+ was not obvious at all.

That is a crazy low consumption for that performance. Hard to believe, but I'll take your word on it.

Any reason why the throttle temp is 75°C? At 80°C it probably wouldn't throttle at max OC. I've done the same with the Khadas VIM3 (A311D). Got a bit better performance out of it.
https://forum.khadas.com/t/raise-thrott ... tu/8740/10

I am testing in the hottest days of the year. I expect it not to throttle as much ohterwise with lower temps.

If I remember well the XU4 its throttle temp was 95°C. I wouldn't want the N2 to run that hot, but 75°C is very cautious I think.
Thank you. Greetings.

If your ambient temperature is less than 30°C, N2+ will not do any thermal throttling at max OC 2.4Ghz without the cooling fan.

I got this with my CoreELEC bundle for my N2+ from odroid.co.uk. (Just bought that bundle as it was cheaper than the regular board with everything) It stated it came with a 12v/1.5A PSU which I thought wasn't within spec but I received this one.

Is this ok?

It's pretty much ok, recommended power supply from HK is 12V/2A.

Dear All,

We are using SmartPower2 to measure the power of our Odroid board.
I read the specs to find that the current-shunt and power monitor which is used in the power board uses Conversion Time (CT) of 1.1msec by default.

We see that SmartPower2 is reporting the power with a sampling rate of 1 second.

During the 1 second sampling period does SmartPower2 make many reads for the current/power (for 1.1 msec) and average them within the 1 second?

Or it just reads the current/power once (for 1.1 msec) every 1 second?
