KKSB Odroid H3/H3+ case, or is there better out there.?

Post by scjet »

Hi all, a few questions:

a.) Anyone got any experience with this case.?
I've read quite a few reviews, by (so-called) verified purchasers, where some complain that the fan that comes with it does not fit properly in the case, and/or it's noisy and still throttles, ...?

b.) What are the exact dimensions of this odd fan that kksb uses for their case.?
-I'm assuming my 92mm x 25mm Noctua PWM fan, presently, will not fit in this kksb case.
It seems kksb didn't really think this case out, unless they meant it to run "fanless", which would also be fine depending on it's use.

c.) I already have the Odroid-H3 case type 2, for assembly reasons but only a temporary solution, so I'm really looking for a decent:
1./ mini-pc/NUC/mini-ITX style case to house my H3+ and (2) Seagate 16TB SATA (3.5 inch) drives comfortably.
Or,
2./ go bigger with a Desktop/M-ATX sized case or similar to house my H3+ and (2) Seagate 16TB SATA (3.5 inch) drives.
I don't have access to a 3D-printer, but I have a drill, and access to my friends hole-punch if need be. ;)

Lastly,
d.) Will the stand-off holes on the H3+ board line up to fit in a standard small PC/Desktop case meant for mini-ITX/mATX/... motherboards, ...?

Hi,

All I can tell is that H2/H3 series do not follow any ATX and later case standards, so there's no mass produced case you could use instead, that is not intended for H3 specifically.
I remember someone requesting the future H-series Odroids to fit ATX cases, but the reasoning was that the industrial customers already got used to H3 hole pattern and will not be willing to change it now.

Yes, I figured as much but thanks for that confirmation.
Future-wise, hundreds of these big PC/Desktop small mATX case manufacturers, from Antec to Zotac, ..., must be blind if they don't see a market to fit these powerful (SBC) boards and accessories such as H3*, N100, Ryzen, Amlogic, OpenRISC, and beyond, ..., into their cases with very little extra effort or cost.

It's not that "size" matters, instead it's that the universal "fit"ness matters more, a few extra machined screw holes and voila, fits all.
...but hey, that's just me marketing in the future again. :ugeek:

There are people who mounted the case into miniATX or ATX cases and there is a 3d-printable adapter around the forum iirc.

Are there also adapters for mini-ITX and mini-STX?
