NIC problems (upload and disconnections)

Post by claublog »

Hello there,

I've been having network issues with ODROID H2+ since I purchased it one month ago.

The main problem is that the Ethernet drops frequently, sometimes every 10 or 15 minutes. Since I thought that I did mess up with Ubuntu Server 18.04 installation, I decided today to start from scratch with a Lubuntu 20.04. After following the steps from the wiki and doing a modprobe r8125 the ethernet interface properly joins the LAN network and gets internet access.
Unfortunately I keep having this issue. Could someone please bring me some help with this issue? I find a shame that Hardkernel is shipping boards with ethernet problems out of the box.

I would also like to know why is the internet speed slow. Using speedtest-cli I get between a 20% and a 70% of the available speed when no other devices are connected. I tried setting the DNS server to the ones from google and I don't get a better result.

Some have reported that these issues are solved once you manually install the latest realtek driver from their site.

Which Kernel version do you use on Ubuntu server 18.04.
We've used Ubuntu 20.04 on Kernel 5.4 only and there was no such issue after installing realtek's driver.

But it is worth to try Kernel 5.9 RC1 or RC2.

Hello @odroid and @mad_ady

Thanks for your help. Despite my kernel was already 5.4, upgrading it to 5.9 RC1 fixed the issue :)

Hello again, the problem with the disconnections persist.

The ethernet adapter drops constantly every 5 minutes, sometimes more often, depending on the moment. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

@claublog,
Can you find any clue in 'dmesg' output?
