H2 and M.2 SATA disks, risk of damage?

Post by tabaglio »

Hello!
Sorry if this is a pretty stupid way to begin my contribution to the forum, but I'd like to know if someone has any idea if putting an M.2 SATA card in the H2 risks damaging the board.

Let me explain: I have two H2s, one is now chugging along fine as my personal NAS/thingsboars/nextcloud box. The other I was getting ready today...
I was convinced that a spare M.2 I had laying around was an NVMe disk, so convinced I did not even notice the double notch in it. I put it into the h2 and powered on, obviously it was not detected.
Now I'm waiting for an NVMe disk to arrive, but I was wondering, does the board survive the insertion of the wrong type of M.2 disk?

Since we don't have any M.2 SATA storage device, we have not tested it.

Can you see the BIOS screen without M.2 device?

Yep, the board boots fine (even with the m.2 SATA inserted), it just does not see it.

I see.
Once you receive the NVMe disk, let us know how it goes.

Yup, will get it on Monday, hopefully.
Will update here once I tested it.

Got the replacement card, installed it and it works fine.
The m.2 sata disk also survived.
