I have been a tru fan for pfsense for a long time but resently I get a incident and needed to reinstall my system. When auto backup didn't take my password I get a bit frustrated at first and then come a idé in My Head. IF everything was gane and need to start over. Why not test opensense when..
To my surprise I get a pritty good impression.
A more modern UI and things was more Thoughful. Logs was easy to get in to if I needed to check if things go the why I wanted.
Better overview of FW rules.
And top of all I feel more respons when I are on the webb. UI is also quick.
Overall I feeling opensense have take a step ahead when it comes to innovation and feelnes then pfsense.

I’am also using pfSense. Very stable in general. Only had one HW problem. Could restore. Never try opensense.

I going to stick with open sense a while and see if it's going to be stable on long-term.odanmag wrote:I’am also using pfSense. Very stable in general. Only had one HW problem. Could restore. Never try opensense.
You should test it someday.. I got latest networks driver for H2 rev b.
I have enable hardware offload and going to do some test later.
The only thing I found is that cpu is a bit higher. But I feal more respon in UI and when I browsing from client's.

Re: Router of choice : pfsense or opensense?
I´m using opnsense on my H2+ for about 4 weeks now.
No major problems.
Full speed 1,1 Gbit internet (download)
Setup:
the first 2,5 Gbit Port is my WAN ( 1,1Gbit internet connection coming from my FritzBox 6660 2,5 Gbit port)
the second 2,5 Gbit connects to my 2,5 Gbit port gaming PC
and a 1 Gbit PCIe NIC over a M.2 NGFF Key M to PCIe 3.0 4X Extension Cable connects my openwrt Routers ( Vlans ..... )
I used a 2,5" SSD over SATA, ( this SSD works over USB3 port and adapter too )
System is fanless
Bios 1.22
and my biggest wish : the Inexpensive 4 x 2.5GB switch from this thread :

Re: Router of choice : pfsense or opensense?
Have just setup new install of opnsense on H2+ with the netcard - https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/h2-net-card/
Still in the configuration process at the moment but everything is working out of the box.
- OS is running on 8Gb emmc card
- No problems running ports at 1Gb or 2.5Gb
- aes-ni crypto acceleration supported
Current version is:
OPNsense 21.1.1-amd64
FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE-p13-HBSD
OpenSSL 1.1.1i 8 Dec 2020
The only small thing that took me some time to work out initially was the numbering of the ports. The net cards ports are first (ie interfaces re0 through re3 and the odroid's ports are last re4 & re5)

Re: Router of choice : pfsense or opensense?
I understand it easily which are the ports of Odroid H2+ and which are the ports of Net card and I setup re4 as a WAN and re0(LAN) from Net card is the first port which is the only one which have Internet on the other ports of Net card when I attached the raspberry pi 4 the leds are blinking but no Internet.I wonder how is done the proper way. Did I have to add every lan port to "Interfaces" section and then from Firewall section to give rules?
