ARES from Retro Arena and Tech Toy Tinker for the Odroid H2+

Post by Slaminger »

ARES has come to the Odroid H2 Plus. Here is Beta 1 ARES image, the source code will be going public this evening for project ARES from Tech Toy Tinker/Retro Arena. It is much like Retro Arena but it has more emulators and x86 support has been added. This being a beta is sure to have some bugs, but I have tested several systems along with emulationstation and retroarch, the foundation is in place and working well, Citra is untested but installed, Dolphin is also installed and working, both from desktop and through emulationstation, if you have controller issues simply launch the desktop version and config there, it carries over into the ES version. Mame 2015 is installed and plays Killer Instinct 1 and 2, Kodi is installed. PSP and Dreamcast(redream), all the older systems. I also suggest using a mouse on your first boot to resize windows to your liking and control ubuntu settings. If you get a pesky error popup cause you issues, use sudo nano /etc/default/apport, now change the line enabled=1 to enabled=0.
This build is a long term project and will be updated on a regular basis. It is built on Ubuntu 18, upgrading to 20 is an option but has not yet been tested. Emulationstation auto launches at boot, press f4 to get out to the desktop. All feedback and comments are welcome below, thanks for reading!!

This build has multiple front end options and introduces RetroFE, which is still in development, it is ready besides the lack of a controller configuration wizard, usb controllers automatically work using RetroFE and it offers a larger amount of theming options and possibilities over Emulationstation.

This is the first release of any ARES build outside of our Patreon community, enjoy!

Flycast has been fixed and an updated x86 .sh file added to the link below. this file goes into /home/ARES-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores and can then be installed from the runcommand menu like any other emulator, this makes Redream optional, and Flycast supports Atomiswave and Naomi.
V3 has just finished, this has stand alone mame, more emulators, and Attract mode, please bind your controller in retroarch, not just ES.

To resolve citra not booting via ES properly, open the es_systems.cfg and edit the <command> line to say <command>citra-qt /home/aresuser/ARES/roms/3ds %ROM%</command>

Please note that due to the addition of M.A.M.E stand alone and multiple variants of M.A.M.E, there are easily 50 systems that can be added to this list by the end user, but they must be set up to work with M.A.M.E, this would include systems like Phillips CDI or Megaduck handheld.

This build also includes Kodi 19, WineHQ-Stable(Windows apps on Linux), and Anbox(Android apps on pc)

It is a work in progress and will be updated frequently, any .sh file you see at the download link is an emulator or core that is now working and can be safely added to your emmc and installed.

nah, you can flash it to the 32gb emmc, or flash it on an m2 stick and boot that way too. h2+ build is ready now, n2+ is not
