EMMC 16go Odroid X2 troubles. Recover and OS fashed done but it don't boot at all

Post by Tigroux » Wed Jun 03, 2020 5:28 pm

Hello everyone,

i have an Ordoid X2 207367571 Rev 0.4 20120808 with an 8GO EMMC that work perfectly (even if 8go is not enought for me).
Then, i buy an 16 GO EMMC from there : https://www.kubii.fr/accessoires-odroid ... results=18

When i try it first, at power on, only the red led is on.
Then, i have done the recover procedure : viewtopic.php?f=53&t=969
I got as describe, so it seems to succeed.
I flash the EMMC with ubuntu-16.04-mate-odroid-x2-20160920.img.xz (that works by microSD)

Now, when i retry, the 3 leds are on (the red and the two blue leds).
But, they are fixed and the board is not booting...

I don't know if it is possible by the recovery image to extract the b1, b2 and u-boot file from my working EMMC to write it into the other...
I fact, the recovery image use some prompt commands so as to flash the b1, b2 and u-boot files to the EMMC hidden partition.
May it is possible to reverse the procedure.

Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
Tigroux

If the blue LED is solid on, the boot loader(u-boot) is running at least and the 16GB eMMC recovery process seemed to be successful.
Did you use "Etcher" to flash ubuntu-16.04-mate-odroid-x2-20160920.img.xz image into the 16GB eMMC?

BTW, what is the PCB color of your working 8GB eMMC?

Hello odroid,

yes i have used Etcher to flash.
The 8G EMMC PCB is green and the 16G PCB is orange.

I have an UART-USB linker, may it would be interesting to connect the board with it.
The board has a white connector with 4 pins.
The 2 extrem side pins correspond to the alimentation (i guess) and the 2 others in the middle must be TX/RX...
I suppose it will let me access to the u-boot console.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks for your help.

Orange eMMC module must be compatible with U2/U3/X/X2 boards.

Good to hear you have a USB-UART cable.
But the Samsung SoC Exynos-4412/5422 IO voltage level is only 1.8Volt not 3.3Volt.
If your USB-UART linker doesn't support 1.8V IO, you will fry your X2 board.

As it is this FTDI : https://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet ... 232RL.html

It is compatible with 1.8v.
I have to thanks you to warn me about it (i could have connected the board with the 3.3v).

The FTDI board i have, it has 3 pins to switch between 5v or 3.3v but i can connect the middle pin to the 1.8v refference from the odroid board :)

Thanks for the doc, i'll try to go futher and i'll let you know if i get something new ;)
