Sold Out
The ODROID-H2, our first x86 based platform has been launched successfully yesterday.
Thank you so much to all ODROID fans. All your orders will be shipped out early next week sequentially.
We have very SMALL problem now. We have sold out all our first production lot in 24 hours. We are so sorry for that.
In fact, we conservatively prepared only 2,000pcs of H2 boards because we could not predict this situation.
We are contacting Intel for the lead time of the Gemini Lake processor.
Due to Intel's serious supplying issue these days, they can supply the Gemini Lake SoC in February or March 2019. WHAT? REALLY!!
They also mentioned that they can give us a firm delivery schedule in January.
It means Hardkernel can't tell you when we can resume selling the ODROID-H2 again.
We will keep calling and pushing Intel people to secure the SoC in near future.
We are really sorry for those who could not buy in the first production batch.

As a business man you should be happy, especially since the community had mixed feelings about going x86. Economics classes tell you that zero stocks are the best kinds of stocksWe are so sorry for that.

Look at the bright side: you just saw there was a market for the H2. Imagine the situation where you still had 1.999 boards left on stock at this time

Damn! Waited just too long.
Any way for those of us who are keen - indeed, desperate - to get one of these to reserve one for the next batch?

N1 - EOL
N2 - NDA
H2 - out of stock
I have a hunch that XU4 and C2 will sell very well this Christmas.

Re: Sold Out
The H2 does look really nice. I think AMD's Ryzen-based Embedded V1202B / Athlon 200GE would not have these supply issues, and I like AMD better anyways... but hopefully Intel will be able to provide more supply sooner than they predicted!

Just for interest and because that was/is a major point in development on N2 (and H2 to some point):odroid wrote:We have to gather all of our resources to expedite the N2 development.
What is average RAM size people ordered with these 2000 boards (my guess would be above 4GB and below 16GB, but surprise me)?
Thx

Seriously? 2000 units sold already??? I wanted to place an order after getting my paycheck in about one week... This is utterly unexpected, especially since there were enough people that said they will not order one. I may have convinced a few to order, I guess...

Re: Sold Out
I just checked today and i am a bit disappointed about the prospect of not being able to order one soon.
I am happy about the price point though...
As a note/ideas: as you have got time at hand maybe you can review the board specs a bit while we wait and update the specs.
What could be reviewed/changed?
My wish list:
I wonder if any of this could be possible and make the board more interesting - just some food for thought...

My wish list:
- networking:
- 2.5ghz network (say Realtek8125) - it would help with storage networks/Ceph/...
- other people would probably ask for different chipsets than Realtek
- allow 12v as power input as well not 14-20V (maybe via a separate connector?)
- add-on usb serial board that could get directly attached to the gpio connector and would also allow control over power on/off and reset (plus tested bios support for management over serial alone) - this would be nice for managing a cluster of nodes - poor mans ipmi...
I wonder if any of this could be possible and make the board more interesting - just some food for thought...

Re: Sold Out
I doubt HK can make any changes to the bios. I guess it's a binary blob on a chip somewhere. Also serial would work after kernel boots - you wouldn't have the flexibility of u-boot, unless maybe if grub/coreboot supports serial.
Also serial is serial, not ipmi. You'd need extra signals for power management.

Until we get a firm CPU delivery schedule from Intel, we can't tell you when we resume selling again.
So we can't accept any preorder at this moment.
We will inform the availability on this thread when it is ready.

Very disappointing. I was looking forward to picking up 5(ish) of these and trying a small Proxmox cluster, and another 5 for k8s.

I just wanted to order one after salary day, which is at the end of the month. I am also just venting some of that irritation. 3 months can pass easily enough.

I wonder why they thought it was a good idea to buy a lot?
*edit*
After seeing the price on their Odroid Go ($60) I know why, they watched the Go sell out the first time far exceeding demand and gambled it would happen here also.
*edit 2*
Perhaps it would be a good idea for Hardkernel to place a limit of 5 devices on first run products.
This would allow for more customers to get their hands on the devices vs resellers. It's good business attempting to prevent unwanted markup of your products.

Just putting a temporary limit for the first couple days of a new product would be beneficial, and not to inconvenient for anybody needing to place a larger order.

I hate seeing buying power affect availability and price. Example being the way bitcoin affected GPU prices for the past couple of years.cdu13a wrote:Just putting a temporary limit for the first couple days of a new product would be beneficial, and not to inconvenient for anybody needing to place a larger order.
Even a temporary limit would be much better than nothing. I understand from one viewpoint Hardkernel sold all the devices which is good, but I think all devices would have sold even with a limit.
Another person/company has full control of H2 stock and are charging accordingly. This is bad for Hardkernel business. Of course the person/company is free to do this and is simply taking advantage of a situation and making money, good business for them. We find ourselves smack in the middle of the Kobayashi Maru.

Re: Sold Out
This kind of huge bulk ordering, where HK doesn't get paid for its hard work, may be an issue in the future too
One option to be fair to all is maybe, during say the 1st 3 days of a new product release, give forum members a chance to purchase, say 1 or 2 units. This community that supports HK, can buy the units if they wish. Since the purchase quantity is low, it is not economical for folks to create bogus forum accts, as the S/H costs will be high if someone tries to abuse the process. After those 3 days, HK can open it up for general sale. That way HK wouldn't be deprived of early good sales.
This may minimize profiteers, keep community happy, and allow for HK to sell the remainder units very quickly. This ways, no few deep-pocketed entities can clear the entire stock like this... It is very likely, even in early 2019, given Intel's low-interest to produce huge #s of these low-margin SOCs, we will see a repeat of this, since the H2 is so popular...
Just a thought...

Re: Sold Out
Sorry about the link, guys. I am not advertising him/her/they at all. I am just pointing out an issue. A limit to 5 or 10 devices on first run or even on new releases would be beneficial. I do understand HardKernel gets their money by selling all their items, but without any limits profiteers can arise. I guess I must be lucky to have ordered oDroid Go at launch. I found the link on Reddit and people do not understand why I am upset.
I will let HardKernel hard-working people to figure out a solution for the next batch. I think they know that things like this will happen again. I think that a purchase limit for the first days or maybe week would be good. Reserving units for forum members is not good, there are a lot of members and not all of them would buy one. I am not even considering that implementing this is difficult (I am using a different email address for the forum than the one used for purchases).

Riddle me this, riddle me that

Re: Sold Out
That was the case with Odroid GO! (due to the batteries) - are you sure this is also the case with H2? I read elsewhere they still shipped to Europe.mad_ady wrote:But they can ship only to germany
