temperature range in operation mode

Post by con2023 »

Hi again,

a second question which the data sheet could not answer is: from which to which temperature in °C is it save to use the H3/ H3+?

We plan to use the H3/H3+ in a closed housing with an expected environment temperature about 35 up to 50°C. For sure, we add fans to have air circulation from óutside to inside (and otherway around) and we will use a on the H3/ H3+ fan, too. But just as information, we really would like to know where the borders of temperature range of the H3/ H3+ are.

Thank you very much

We tested it in a chamber set at 35°C and it operated normally for 72 hours with a cooling fan.
I think it will work even at 50°C, but if heavy computing loads on the CPU or GPU continues, I expect thermal throttling to occur frequently.

I have the same question, minimal operating/booting temperature I have both an H3 and an H2 in a plastic container outside. I want to use boot at power tested them both inside and worked perfectly however when installed outside the H3 does not seem to boot at power. So just want to make sure the low temperatures prevent the H3 from booting. H3 also has a lithium RTC battery.

What is your target minimum operating temperature in degrees Celsius?
I have heard that some users put a heater in the container box to keep the temperature above freezing at all times.

The temperature in Seoul, Korea today is relatively cold, around -10°C, but it was possible to boot the H3 board outdoors.
However, the datasheet of Samsung DDR4 RAM doesn't say anything about operating in sub-zero temperatures.
Therefore, it is difficult to predict what problems will arise in sub-zero temperatures.

Modern high-speed microelectronic design requirements involve temperatures way below -10C. The upper limit is above temperatures humans could stand. I'm sorry I can't be more specific.

In space industry we actually had to create spreadsheets with all components used in the design and their rated temperature ranges. By hand. I hated that.

The typical commercial temperature range of ICs is 0-70C, and the easiest solution is to keep SBCs within that range.

I can't speak for low temperatures.
For high one, well, my H2 and H2+ stayed up and running while it was 41C ambient here in Brazil.

Anecdotal experience:
During summer ambient room temp rose to ~32°C - and the (fanless) H2 threw GCC ICEs - which never happened before or after that day.
