FlappyBirdClone 2.0

Unread post by vbrusca » Tue Jan 22, 2019 7:51 am

I noticed the default flappy bird clone app wasn't working too well with the current ODROID-GO hardware. I updated it to make it perform a little bit better.
Here is the sketch for it.

https://github.com/vbrusca/FlappyBirdCloneOdroidGo

I tried to make a .fw file for the ino.bin of the project. I used the following docs.

https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid_go/arduino_app

I ran this command:

./mkfw test tile.raw 0 16 1048576 app flappy_bird.ino.bin

After making a tile.raw file from a png. The app load in the base launcher, you can see the icon but when you click it and press start you get a checksum error. I'm running these commands on a mac.

Running the latest firmware, anyone have a similar experience or a possible solution?

Ensure you are using a current version of the mkfw tool. Old versions (before July 23, 2018) do not generate the checksum:

Also, 1048576 represent 1 MB of space. If the game is more than 1MB, you should increase this value. I ran into the same trouble while building MMD.

Yup my problem was the mkfw tool I used was out of date. I think I should have investigated the git repo a bit more and made sure I had the latest branch. Man it runs nicely now. I'm not sure if it's just me but it seems to run smoother and with fewer to no drawing artifacts when loaded from a .fw instead of the Arduino IDE. Maybe it's just me.

Very cool though! Thanks for the assist.

The original code/built in code was great but for some reason when I ran it via the Arduino IDE it would sort of blow up after a little while and render strangely.

Updated with fix for audio whine on the menu screens, had to either sleep some time or not use the standard update method call.
Fixed bird graphics, and controls, no audio.

The controls are tight, graphics are good and the fps is flawless. A must.
