I need to generate a PNG error log because I turned off showing of save thumbnails to avoid this problem. He mainly appears in Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES.
It's possible the crash.log is still on your SD Card if no other crash occurred since then. I'd really like to fix the issue since it can prevent retro-go from starting...

Can you recommend me some linux version which will be best for Retro-GO compilation?
No, sorry. I work on Windows but I've compiled retro-go on Debian without issue and I know some people used Ubuntu and Arch as well.

New release: Retro-Go 1.26 is now available! Download via top post or github.

(The only change since the last alpha build shared here is GB/GBC BIOS support.)

Changes since 1.25:
- GBC: Experimental BIOS support (put your files in /bios/gb_bios.bin and /bios/gbc_bios.bin. At the moment SameBoy's BIOS glitches but official seems to work fine.)
- NES: Added Mesen roms database to patch wrong headers
- All: Option to disable partial screen updating (it seems to cause glitches for some people)
- Launcher: Option to enable/disable any tab
- Launcher: Fixed subdirectory display
- Launcher: Fixed sorting bugs
- Launcher: Recently played list
- Dev: Now able to build on esp-idf 4.1 and 4.2

Thanks everyone for testing!

I have done some tests, I have encountered problems with the GBC BIOS in Metroid II DX. It freeze on the Game Boy intro. It's the only game that I have encountered problems with.

Thank you!

I've uploaded 1.26.1 because apparently I made a typo and subfolders were still broken...

Is that the rom hack? I can probably reset all the registers when the bios is done loading so that we maintain the exact same previous compatibility. The BIOS is there just for the animation after all. I'll do some tests and share a build soon!

Yes, it is a colorization hack for Metroid 2. If the bios is only for animation, I'll just remove it.

Thanks!

The BIOS doesn't improve performance or compatibility (it might do the opposite, in fact). It's really just for the experience. It was requested some time ago and, while working on something else recently, I realized it'd take only a few minutes to put in bios too, so I did :).

The palette swap combos might be nice to get working though (https://i.imgur.com/jZUXMp2.jpeg).

It was a bad rom. I built my own patched version and everything is fine, so no need to fix anything. Thank you!

Ducalex, the source files can be found here in this rar file. Is that what you need?

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/0cdki57jfpq6 ... tracking=1
Yes thanks. There's a lot of different hardware supported in there so we still have to wait for you to get your board. But I can add right now support for a few things like audio and battery level.
Hey Ducalex / SPTLegend - I have one of the MRGC devices here. What type of images do you need of the board? Never opened it before.. But I can give it a try. Would love to get some better firmware on this!! :D

Edit: I don’t have a tri-wing screwdriver, so maybe not.. but I could still try!

If this is the one you got then I think the source we have is enough for me to build a test firmware if you want to experiment.

Also it doesn't have USB, right? I think they've wired serial to the ext port so you'd have to make a custom cable to capture debug output... That's a shame, it would have been pretty helpful.

Edit: I'm attaching a test build for the MRGC-G32. I've followed carefully the hardware mapping from their source so it *should* be safe but please don't blame me if anything explodes. I suspect nothing will work correctly initially, but if you see something on the screen it's a start!

I suspected flashing would be an issue :(. I manually patched the .fw header but there must be other differences I missed.

I think the fw CRC is fixed and I changed LCD init commands. No idea if it will help, but you can try!

The display is rotated and also offset on the G32. There are (a few) offsets and window dimensions in retro-go that are hard coded. I can fix but doing so blindly won't be possible I think.

However I've at least set the correct resolution and changed some config stuff, you can try this one.

I’m running 1.26.2 and all of the images are distorted. I tried copying it to the card multiple times and reinstalling it multiple times, but the issue persists. Rolling back to 1.26.1 fixes the problem. If there’s any info I can give you to help debug, let me know. 2GB SD card, running multi-firmware 20210226-7ebc009.Image

I've implemented 76 and 206. I did very little testing but they're simple mappers and I followed the nesdevwiki carefully. Digital Devil Story boots but I don't know how to play...

Let me know if it there are issues!

Hello, ducalex.
I just found out that on latest release version 1.26.3 in gnuboy menu line "save SRAM now" is colored in grey. Like it is not possible to press. But it is working OK and saving sram.

added:
OK, now I have more information. Seams like this issue is only on my polished crystal romhack. Yesterday I played Harry Potter and "save SRAM now" was usual white color.
I can provide you rom+sav file in PM if you are willing to look into this "problem"

Hello ducalex,
thank you so much for all the effort you already made for our odroid go... but i want to give you a task. One very important and big thing nobody mentioned and asked for it till today.
This task is maybe the biggest and hardest you can get:
READY TO GO FOR IT?!?
Give us Super Gameboy Support... and with that i don't mean just a palette to choose from like in gambatte. I mean the enhanced Palette of more than 4 Colors in certain Games like Donkey Kong, Kirbys Dreamland 2, etc.
The only emulators which can handle it i know so far is mgba, john gbc and my oldboy for Android, etc...
I know that will take a long time but if anybody can do it then it's you.

Thanks, there was indeed a bug in how the dialog was built and it was fixed shortly after 1.26.3! Since this isn't too urgent, it will wait for the next release (by the end of the month).

- First alpha build for MRGC-G32 (GBC) devices

Note: MRGC-G32 build is only on github and has plenty of issues: display issues, select doesn't work, random crashes, etc. But it's getting there!

Note 2: Super Game Boy palette support isn't merged yet because it of misc issues, it should be in the next release.

Thanks everyone for testing!

Now Dixie don't crash anymore, but after the"O" in first it starts to behave very strange and you can't finish the level because there is no flag... If you understand what i mean...

Fair enough, I didn't actually play the game after fixing the crash.
I'll test it more carefully and see if I can see and fix the problem!

Hey ducalex, I just found that this forum exists, wanted to thank you for all your hard work! This past year and a half has been hard on all of us and your efforts with Retro Go have made this time easier for a lot of people. Been a fan since 1.19

One question, is there any way to hide the systems I am not using from the menu? (SNES or Colecovision for example).

Thanks again for everything!

Hello, it is possible to do by pressing "sound" button in launcher and selecting "Toggle tabs" option!

I found not important bug with new menu in gbc emulator. If I launch color game and go to "options" - "More" my cursor is at "Palette" option and I can change it once by pressing left or right. You will understand what I mean if you try it yourself. It is not disturbing, but looks not cool.

Indeed, option available since 1.26! Before that there was an option to hide tabs if they contained no roms, I think named "Empty tabs: show/hide".

Hi Ducalex,

Any chance you can implement mapper 30 for the nes? Thanks!

Judging from nesdevwiki I don't think I can implement it all, but probably enough to get games working!
Can you recommend a game I should use for testing while developing the mapper?

I don't understand the files you've shared. Are they firmwares for when building a physical cartridges?

If anyone has time I have an alpha build to test. There are no new features but I have made some significant changes to the display code to allow for more flexible configuration (better mrgc-g32 support). However the ODROID-GO is still my primary target so I'd like to make sure there are no regressions.

Please let me know if there are new crashes or display glitches or tearing or anything of the like!

(I'm also including an MRGC-G32 build for the curious but that one I know is still not very stable...)

Thanks!

Also, the GB/GBC bios are no longer showing on boot. I cannot open the menu ingame anymore, it crashes on 1.21.7. It's back to previous version for me.

Crash log included.

Thanks

The mutex crash has been there for a while but it was somewhat random and rare so not worth fixing. It is indeed a problem if it happens more often though. I will try to fix it for good :).

Some paths have changed in 1.27, including bios and cache. I forgot to mention it in the changelog, sorry!
See: https://github.com/ducalex/retro-go/#bios. Other paths are listed here but maybe I should document it in the README too.

Can you try this attached build? I'm trying to roll back to a "last known working" code base before I move on with the display changes.
(The mutex SPI bug is still there and the bios still need the new path.)
