Which hard drive?

Unread post by cleverest@gmail.com » Mon Mar 25, 2019 10:44 am

What is the most cost-effective way to fit at least a 2TB 2.5" hard drive into this case? The case is: OGST Gaming Console Case for ODROID-XU4
SEE: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D3F1J5G

I will be most likely using ODROID-Game-Station-Turbo

Should I get a "My passport" drive (I'm thinking 2, 3 or 4tb), and take it out of the casing it comes with or just buy an internal 2.5" SATA to use direcrly?

What has worked best for people? Any drives out there handle the heat better than others (being inside this case)?

Thank you for any guidance on this!

Any 2TB 2.5" USB HDD could be installed.

Thanks, but I must have misunderstood this feature...the drive doesn't have to be an internal 2.5", it can remain in the EXTERNAL casing and still be placed inside the OGST Gaming Console Case for ODROID-XU4 I linked? I was assuming I needed to make it an internal drive *to install it INSIDE this case* (which I've read it large enough to accommodate a 2.5" hard drive)...was I wrong?

I should tell you 2.5" USB HDD enclosure could be installed for better explanation.
My Passport 2TB must be fine. But you have to check the thickness of 3TB or 4TB models.

oh, I see, so it doesn't HAVE to be an internal 2.5" SATA drive, it can just be installed directly as a USB 3 external 2.5" My Passport drive (just as it comes?) - well that makes it much easier! I'll be sure to stick with a 2TB so it's not too thick. Thanks for responding.

I don't think that the link is correct.

Thanks so much for that...I was wondering why that other link was going nowhere...

One more question if you don't mind...will this case, not work with an active cooling solution ODROID, but only a passive one? Do you know?

I wanted to order this for it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0163GEA64

But the guide you provided only shows the passive option...I play on running a hard drive inside and Dreamcast/Ps1 games a lot so I'm worried about it overheating....any advice on this APPRECIATED. Thanks again.

Active cooling version of XU4 must be fine too. Actually, it will be better for gaming.

Cool, I'll order it and report how it worked out with the case....crossing fingers!

So thought I had this clear, but now I'm confused....sorry, as this is all new to me and the resources provided are not explaining some things...

A Youtube video was showing the build process and that a 2.5 hard drive can be placed INSIDE the gaming case (but clearly an external version won't fit) so it must be referring to an INTERNAL drive, not a USB one. I say that because he ALSO mentioned you can use a USB drive VELCRO strapped to the bottom side of the case...

Does anyone actually use an INTERNAL 2.5" (Laptop sized) hard drive inside their OGST Gaming Console Case with their ODROID XU4? How did you connect it to the main board?

Could this accomplish what I'm asking above to get an internal 2.5" SATA drive installed and working into the gaming case enclosure?

We could place the Seagate 2.5" Backup Plus Slim 2TB in to the case.
We used a couple of velcro tape between the HDD enclosure and the bottom case.
WD 2.5" 2TB Elements Portable disk should be installable too.

Any disk could be fit if dimensions is smaller than 4.8" x 3.2" x 0.8".
But the adapter in your link might need to be checked for the UASP compatibility.

Good to know! If the adapter is UASP compatible, I'm just thinking I'll get better Thermal dissipation without the drive inside an external enclosure besides the game case itself...I have a Seagate 2.5" Backup Plus Portable 2TB, the only dimension that concerns me then is DEPTH, which is: "0.807in" - I guess I'll find out if I decide not to remove it from it's factory case... (if it's even removable...)

Actually allowed maximum height is 30mm which is over 1inch.
But you have to consider the thickness of the double side tape or velcro tape.
