[N1][pre-announcement] Debian Bookworm Minimal with kernel 6.9.0

Post by joerg »

After years I am about to renew my NAS (OMV) with the fantastic working horse Odroid N1.
Until now I was using @meveric's Debian image, which was running very well all the last years.
I was not yet able to make the last mainline u-boot working with the N1. So for the new OS image I am using the bootloader part of the older image.
The rest I have compiled or generated new. For compiling the kernel I tried last linaro toolchains, but always running into compiling errors. But with LLVM toolchain it works. :)
I have not yet tried to install everything for OMV. Let's see how it goes...
If someone is interested I can create an minimal image. ;)

You want to generate the image by yourself? For my image I don't needs graphics, so I am not sure if the kernel I have compiled, meets your needs. But if you are interested, I can publish kernel config and how I have compiled.

No, thanks! I'm not planning on switching distros. As a matter of fact, the OS I'm currently running went through a lot... Started life as Ubuntu 18 (or 16? I don't remember) armhf, on an xu4, got a uboot/kernel transplant and was migrated to N1, and then cross-graded in-place to arm64, and dist-upgraded ever since...
Starting from scratch without a recipie is scary...

The N1 is really very well supported with upstream Kernel and drivers.
Although I have some minor issues with MESA 24.1.
I also love the fact I can use mpv with hardware acceleration on the N1 with up to 4k HVEC videos directly on the desktop, that's quite impressive although it took me a long time to get here.
And together with projects like box86, box64 the amount of applications/games you can run on that little device is very impressive.
