8 years and counting...

Post by toxygen »

Hi,

I just wanted to report on my usage of X2 over last 8 years. I bought it at the very beginning of 2013. Since then it ran almost without an interruption and it was used as my home server, media center and emergency workstation at times.

Recently I upgraded it all the way from 14.04 to 20.04 without any big problems, alas still running with good ol' 3.8.13 kernel.

I'm running the governor in performance setting with passive heat sink - it rarely reaches above room temperature.

For those interested, the SD Card that I've been using is Samsung 16GB SDHC Memory Card Pro Series Class 10 UHS-I

I would post a photo but it's too dusty for public showcase :)

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for a solid piece of hardware that did not malfunction in its over 70,000 hours of usage.

P.S.: When I used X2 as my temporary workstation during times when my laptop was broken down, I got used so much to the fanless operation that when I got my laptop back it felt weird to hear the buzz all the time.

I envy you early Odroidians, having some of those crazy cool early boards like X2 & XU. It's great to see posts like this, thank you so much for posting.
Makes me wonder if I'll be on a forum one day and have someone say "Damn, you were around when N2+ was a thing?".

I'm still running an U3 with Debian Wheezy from around the same time which runs 24/7.
Used it for years hardcore to compile software for Debian Wheezy and Debian Jessie as well as Kernels for all the old ODROIDs (X,X2,U2,U3,C1,XU,XU3,XU4)
Even today it houses most of my work running of of an external HDD 500GB 2,5" WD.
I also still have my good old X2 which was the very first ODROID that I bought in 2012, but that one is mostly collecting dust nowadays, but still works fine.

Check out the Games and Emulators section to find some of my work or check the files in my repository to find the software i build for ODROIDs.
If you want to add my repository to your image read my HOWTO integrate my repo into your image.

Unfortunately I never had the U3 but I remember how much you touted the capabilities of it
