          I have made my first custom SD Image :ugeek: for the CloudShell2 (530mb xz compressed) and I want to share it with you, it uses Armbian Debian Buster as a base install, it has OpenMediaVault 5.5.2 (Usul) and Kodi 18.7 as well as my cloudshell2-monitoring tool pre-installed, Kodi is auto startet when you connect a TV to your CloudShell2

          After download the NAS Image, please follow this detailed instruction on how to write the Image on SD card Install OMV5

          First things first !! Before you proceed with the configure process you have to logon once via SSH and change the password, there is also a user created when you change it, please have a password and username ready, it is needed for Kodi

          To start with the first steps of the configuration of your NAS please follow this excellent video

          Skip install because OMV5 is already pre-installed and proceed from 6:23

            Kodi:

            Pre-installed pvr.vuplus and pvr.hts for digital TV station receiving (Enigma2, Tvheadend)
            1080i via software decoder support
            Ability to switch HW decoder off

            There are four repositories pre-installed, they are

            repository.castagnait -> Netflix
            repository.collabsvito -> IP TV
            repository.kodinerds -> IP TV, Amazon Prime and Sky
            repository.slyguy -> Disney+

            You have to enable it from within the Add-On's settings menu, to stream Netflix Disney+ and Amazon, you also need to enable this two Addon's

            inputstream.adaptive
            script.module.inputstreamhelper

            cloudshell2-monitoring tool:

            Have a look how to configure this tool here viewtopic.php?f=147&t=33860#p246480

            That's all, have fun !

            P.S.: Please feel free to ask any questions

                @AreaScout

                I'm testing now Your image. I dmesg is a lot of error from 'cec-s5p-cec'
                did You compiled CEC functionality or it's from Kodi?

                P.S. Do You know if there is still fault screen refresh rate if CEC is enabled?

                @maki26

                Thank you for testing :), yes you are right there is a lot of output from cec in the kernel log but it's not a tragedy because there are two seconds in between each message, so it's not flooding and slowing down the device, I think this happens when the cec adapter looses connection e.g if you change the display resolution (automatic frame rate option does), I will see if I can get rid of the message but the problem with disconnects still exists, I will do some tests :ugeek:

                @soerenderfor

                No, when does this happen ? I only noticed that when you boot the CS2 with TV connected and powered on that the boot logo appears on the TV and not on the LCD screen, I have fixed that already and will upload a new image today

                Did you configure the LCD back light with the cloudshell2-monitoring tool ?

                #AreaScout - I'm not sure when and why it happens, the only thing i config was the timer of spin down and lcd off period. But it actually also happens with standard Armbian image with the pre-compiled kernel. I will try to look in when and why it happens. But with the pre-compiled i was able to get the screen on again with the fdtoverlay command.

                I also have a question the Openmediavault install, why is it not the Armbian "OMV" version with flashmem installed?

                Thanks for your work, i'm very glad to see someone put some love and work in the Cloudshell :D

                @soerenderfor

                They have a problem with the timeserver on the latest Armbian buster images, that date stays always on the same day and so my tool and other things in the system get very confused you have to get sure that chrony is installed AND enabled systemctl enable chrony reboot CS2 or restart chrony after this and check if date and time are correct, but on my Image this is already corrected and running, I have my CloudShell2 up for some days now and it runs perfect also my cloudshell2-monitoring tool runs perfect, maybe maki26 can confirm that it runs ok ? On my side I don't see anything not working

                btw. I have uploaded a new Image with corrected splash image script (if TV was connected and on when CS2 was booting)

                P.S.: What did you mean with "why is it not the Armbian "OMV" version with flashmem installed?" is there an extra Armbian version for the OMV and what improvement does it have ? I have installed OMV with the one liner found here in the forum

                #AreaScout - In your version i could see that flashmem did not appear in plugins, also "monitoring" was enabled. It normaly is disabled.

                I did not know the bug, thanks for the fix.

                Your new upload is it the same link in this topic? And i will try the new one

                  I don't know i just installed the latest OMV 5.5.2 (Usul) dunno why flashmem is missing there, I noticed a lot of changes from 4.x, I did not enable "monitoring" it must be enabled by default :?:

                  My new upload has the same link, I also changed the SHA256 string for the new image

                    Hi @AreaScout

                    As You wrote, also I cannot see any problem for now. Maybe tested this image to short time. Will inform You if I will find any problem.
                    Only what I observe was on LCD the "HDMI" icon "ON", but You wrote about it in one post "if HDMI is connected and active" (something like that).
                    I had checked it (aslso with older image) even with amplifier or TV (when was off) shows HDMI connected, had to play with plug.

                      Thank you for reporting, good to hear that it works, regarding the HDMI connect/disconnect status, you can double check what the DRM subsystem reports about the connection status of the HDMI connector by just issue this command cat /sys/class/drm/card0-HDMI-A-1/status if the status reported is not equal the status reported by my tool, then I will check what could be wrong but if it's the same then it has something to do with the way how your amplifier reports to the hardware, it could also be a setting of the amplifier how the HDMI behaves if the source is not selected.

                      #AreaScout - I'm just happy you wants to help so many in this community. I will test one of these days. I'm curious to building image, do you have some nice manuals to follow? Thanks.

                        @soerenderfor

                        While I have startet to build images with openembedded back in 2004 or earlier I do not have much experience with changing existing images, my feeling is that I only know 2% about it, but it was enough to create this custom image, if you need to change files/scripts inside an image it is simply as that https://thomasheinz.net/img-file-disk-i ... x-mounten/, if you want to install packages and use the system on that image as if it would running you must chroot in that system and if the architecture of the host system is not equal with the arch on the image it's even more complex (qemu), I am pretty sure you can write a whole book of it or study it on a university with good name for some years and write your Bachelor Dissertation after this.

                        @AreaScout - Have you tried to use the customize-image.sh, in Armbian build?

                          @AreaScout - As i understand it, you can put your script in that file in the Armbian build and it will run and put it in a custom image.

                          "User provided image customization script
                          You can run additional commands to customize created image. Edit file:

                          userpatches/customize-image.sh
                          and place your code here. You may test values of variables noted in the file to use different commands for different configurations. Those commands will be executed in a chroot environment just before closing image.

                          To add files to image easily, put them in userpatches/overlay and access them in /tmp/overlay from customize-image.sh"

                            Ok, no I have manually created that chroot, first I have resized the image (qemu-img and gparted) then chroot into it

                              @all

                              I will upload a new Image today which has some fixes and has it's own package server added for my cloudshell2-monitoring tool and custom kernel to get updates automatically in the future, this will also prevent you from re-flashing the image always when a update occurs :) The Image was only downloaded ~30 times by now, so there are not too much peoples angry if they have to reflash it :shock: there was a speed issue (up-/download memcpy smb speed) with memory governor and a official Armbian update package which stopped Kodi from starting since yesterday.

                              @AreaScout - Okay, i could see there was a speed issuce with some dynamical mem since kernel 5.4. It has now been fixed for a couple of days with Armbian build.

                              If you need space to some builds or something, or some bandwith. I have a 10gbit dedicated server, you can get space on it if you want. Just pm.

                              UPDATE: Sorry, could see you have answeard on the issue

                                Yes I have, but no problem, I have to ask one of the team members about the update process inside armbian and I will do that tomorrow, that is the reason the new image isn't released yet, could you offer space + ssh access, I mean I have my own server that I can use but who knows whats happen in the future ;)

                                @AreaScout - Yes, it should not bee any problem. You can easily get a 1TB or so, and ssh access. We can talk about it when you think you need it :-)

                                  I have uploaded a new Image, I now have my own repository to update Kodi, kernel and scripts that I use, you con download it by following the download link in the first post, after install you should update the kernel from within the admin web-interface to reach full network speed on up- and download e.g on SMB share, all available updates should be visible in the 'Update Management' tab

                                  Nice, will check the image out tomorrow. Thanks.

                                  UPDATE: Before i flash, i could see the image name is the same as the previous. So just to make sure it is the new one? Thanks-

                                    @soerenderfor

                                    Yes name is always the same because the image is also the same, but sadly I found another issue and currently I am uploading another image, but this time you can solve the problem easily if you do not want to re-flash the image, disable under System -> Monitoring -> system performance statistics collection and issue this command from via a ssh connection

                                    Code: Select all

                                    cd /var/lib/rrdcached/db/localhost
                                    rm -r *

                                    After this you can enable system performance statistics or leave it disabled

                                      @all

                                      The image is downloaded now nearly 100 times, do you guys already have a feedback how it runs on your side ? It would be good to know, I am sitting hear and thinking *oh, hopefully it works for others too*, or does it run so well that nobody has a single word to complain ?

                                      After releasing new OS images, I felt something very comfortable if there is no posts on the forum.
                                      It happens only when there is no critical issue with the new release. ;)

                                        @AreaScout - I did run in a prob. If i follow the video, and set the network card and dns. I do start to get probs to collect an ip adress ( With my others installs i do not use to do it, but just wanted to do as instructed. ) it will not get an ip-adress after some reboots. I will try install again and not setup the network interface.

                                        UPDATE: Without the interface setup, it runs without probs. And the ip will stay at the machine. Thanks.

                                          No, over here it is working, I can add my network device to the network interface list

                                          Do you have some kernel log warnings about fbtft ?

                                          @AreaScout - I could change port on my hp switch a couple of times and it would find the same IP, i'm pretty sure the error was something about "lease" time and it was a hughe number of secounds, that was counting down. I can't rule out it has something to do with my setup.
                                          It has run stress test since yesterday, i has transferd aroud 3TB over SAMBA since yesterday. No probls since.

                                          If nobody else got the error it can be my network setup.

                                          The network interface setting, i do not use to set the interface settings. I have never run into troubles without. Can you point out the bennefits with the setting? Thanks.

                                            It's to have your network device monitored and get email notifications when something goes wrong, on the picture below you can see when I was start watching Netflix ~ 20:15 - 22:05 :ugeek:

                                            Image

                                            I remember having the same problem with OMV4 not being able to add the network device to the list but for me on OMV5 it works, let's wait what others are reporting ;)

                                            It has run stress test since yesterday, i has transferd aroud 3TB over SAMBA since yesterday. No probls since.

                                            Hi All,
                                            with the 1st build and the newest, I never had problem to configure network in OMV.
                                            Doesn’t matter if it’s DHCP or static. I get no error ( I had problem before, when use HK ubuntu image and add OMV).

                                            Currently I set network to static (just left MTU empty) and no error, later installed piHole and no problem.

                                            Could be that fan blow air directly over my 40*40*40 cooler and now less air air goes over.

                                              @maki26

                                              Thank you for the information, yes it could be that if one hard disk is missing the airflow is different and therefore higher temps are reported

                                              @all

                                              I have fixed a kernel warning which marks the kernel as tainted, it was caused by a new realtek driver and there are a lot modules involved in this which could disable your LCD with only back light on and blank screen

                                              This was the cause:

                                              Just so you know, i have not run inot any other problems. It looks like around 112MB/s over SAMBA. I have transferd 6TB, small and large files, installed a bunch of plugins and runs very nice.
