Minidlna problem

Unread post by dabarsa87 » Sun Dec 29, 2019 4:59 am

Hi, I have minidlna installed in openmediavault and it turns out that it does not show me all the folders and files on my smart tv, I have several shared folders and specifically one that I use for photos that have several subfolders with photos inside and I only see a few folders and not all have the photos, the image format is the same in all folders.
What could be the problem? If there is any other program better and compatible with LG smart TV and smartphones tell me which

Check if some of your files that are not listened are owned by root, if this is the case change it to your user that you have created (if any)

Check what you told me and if it is true that they were in root, change everything to the user but it remains the same, not improved at all

Perhaps it's that the files are not compatible with the tv, generally this is determined simply by extensions (*.avi, *.ts, etc).

Yes, and in the smart tv I do not see all the content. Is there a program that does the same function but works better?

It is looong time ago I was playing around with dlna server tools, but I remember that dlna had problems sometimes with files that had a certain naming or special characters, you could try to start minidlna from command line with a verbose or debug option and then see on which file it fails.

I don't know if mindlna it that case does have such a console switch but I would go for it.

I used to use MediaTomb a decade ago when I was using DLNA (not a big fan because of missing subtitle support).
But a lot of new projects can act like dlna servers too: https://www.tecmint.com/best-media-serv ... linux/amp/

Well it seems that doing a reset and a reload of minidlna the problem was solved and all the folders and their contents appear.
Now he was thinking if OMV could be programmed to do these steps from time to time.
      Can be done? how?

Could it also be done from OMV through the option scheduled tasks?

OK, what I did is from scheduled tasks to add a new task, select a time for the

      Code: Select all

      sudo service minidlna force-reload
command to be executed and the user put root, is that ok?
OMV executes this task every 5 minutes, in case you save files at any time, so be reloaded as soon as possible.
      how do they see it?
Would it also be convenient to do a scheduled task with

      Code: Select all

      sudo service minidlna restart
      ?

Restarting so often will cause interruptions in media playback. Better restart it only at night.

Yes, the restart was thinking about doing it once a day in hours that are not used, well then I will do so.

As for the USER section, would it be better to put root to execute the command or better to put it to run it minidlna?
