Problem with updating kernel version

Unread post by Snk » Tue Dec 05, 2017 5:37 am

Hello all good afternoon
When trying to upgrade to the latest kernel, I get the following message:

Code: Select all

Selecting previously unselected package linux-headers-4.14.3-85+.

How can I solve? Anyone else with the same problem?

I am also encountering this problem. All I did was a fresh install of the latest 4.14 ubuntu image for the XU4 on my emmc and did a "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". Same error messages as above.

Hey guys,

I was able to solve the problem for me. Try:

Code: Select all

dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-headers-4.14.3-85+_20171204_armhf.deb
If you doesn't come to success, then:

Code: Select all

apt-get autoremove
apt-get install -f
You have to login as root, it doesn't worked by using "sudo".

Today's 4.14.4 update package should solve the issue.
I will doublecheck it within a couple of hours.

I am late to the table for dinner as usual, please pardon my late reply, but I found this thread with a google search for the kernel in MY odroid XU4 and I had something to add...

I did not do anything directed in this thread except run apt-get dist-upgrade twice. Both times I answered no to the screen that popped up about removing a kernel of the same version. The second time ran a lot longer. I had two packages left over that had to be autoremoved. I did that, then held my breath and rebooted. Now I all is good and I have nothing held back, nothing left to do. All zeros.

But this happened before, and with the same results. I did an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade and the same issue resurfaced again. This was a few months ago though. Hopefully whatever the bug was has been washed out and I can move forward. I did the same apt-get update and upgrade again to be sure, and still the desired results.

I didn't post any of the output but I did save it to a text file if anyone asks. Great forum also!!! Thank you guys for taking the time to help us new ODROID users figure out the kinks!!!
