LibreELEC 7.1.3 - Kodi Jarvis - February update

Unread post by wrxtasy » Wed Dec 07, 2016 1:45 am

LibreELEC 7.1.3
18 Feb. 2017
(source code when I finish tidying up)

Why do I still use Kodi Jarvis - because 5.1 AC3 Audio Passthrough works with PVR Addons. (PCM only with Krypton)

Two versions, use the regular LE 7.1.3 unless you want to experiment with DVB tuners:
- Kernel Bump that includes much improved VC-1 and mpeg4 video playback.
- Lirc (Infra Red) has been tweaked and is now much more responsive. (An OFF/ON toggle is in LibreELEC Configurator > Services)
IR Remotes also have a user adjustable repeat delay, that can now be tweaked in Kodi advancedsettings.xml
http://kodi.wiki/view/advancedsettings.xml
Default Setting is...

Code: Select all

<remotedelay>1</remotedelay>
- a default audio delay is also added for 24p only Movies: (see Kodi log -> .kodi/temp/kodi.log)

Code: Select all

<min>23</min>
<max>24</max>
<delay>175</delay>
<!-- set to zero or adjust if audio seems out of sync with 24p movies -->
- MESON_PWM modules added
- Ethernet MAC address problem fixed. (Also make sure boot.ini has this line correct)
- media_build for DVB Tuners (however can be a bit unreliable for first channel startup - unresolved usb driver issue).
Make sure mpeg2 TV is set to be accelerated - in Settings > Video > Acceleration > mpeg2 > Always

media_build comes "as is" I will NOT be providing comprehensive DVB driver support.

*******************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Two versions this time.
The regular one and a media_build one (thx. @kszaq & @cvh) incorporating V4L-DVB Device Drivers from the...
Linux TV project

What is V4L or DVB ?

Q. Why use V4L-DVB ?
Well so we can use modern USB DVB Tuner devices with an old Linux v3.14 Kernel, such as the what the AMLogic S905 - C2 is using.

Both versions incorporate:
- the very latest common AML S905 C2 / Hub / Play2 - Linux Kernel from the LibreELEC Kernel master code.
- CEC Adapter user configurable repeat, delay and release additions.
- Annoying CEC popup when Kodi starts up is banished (CEC still works)
- Tweaked Resolution and Refresh rate configurator.
- Audio reverts and tweaks
- Ability to Overclock DDR3 SDRAM included in this release. Config instructions in this thread
- OnDemand CPU Governor used. A nice balance between Interactive and Performance.
- Reverted AMLogic GPU video drivers for a faster, smoother Kodi GUI.
- New Lirc ON / OFF toggle (LIRC.tar) found in Kodi Confluence Skin > System > LibreELEC > Services > Lirc (bottom)
- New RGB colorspace setting for those with problem Philips TV, use this in autostart.sh to enable:

Code: Select all

echo 1 > /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/output_rgb
LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.fixed.tar
LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.Fixed.img.gz

Media_Build Edition:
- Tested a Dib0700 PS3 DVB-T Dual Tuner with this media build
- Lirc is broken at the moment. The HardKernel IR remote still works with amremote.
- The ability to instantly Hibernate and WakeUp the C2 via the IR remote is broken also with this version.
- this interrupt tweak added
- CrazyCat's media build drivers 2016-10-05 used.

Hey wrxtasy, thanks.
Couple of question:
- i'm assuming this update includes everything in hotplug update so we can skip the hotplug if we haven't installed it already?
- what cpu frequency is it?
- audio reverts and tweaks, is this just an improvement end user won't see?

Sorry if it's too much to ask but what's the likelihood of an alternative image with overclocked cpu and ram for those who are not very good at it and keep having issues?

Its DIY. You just look on the SD card and there is a boot.ini file you can play with for CPU Freq clocking.

Different CPU Governor modes can be change by:

Code: Select all

echo hotplug > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
etc....

Every update OCT > DEC > JAN .... includes all that has come before it. Unless something is badly broken.

As always do a .tar backup of your current config (System > LibreELEC) and copy that to a PC if your worried. Before doing the Dec. .tar update.

@dexx,
I do not have a AVR. No idea is any Audio tweaks will have an effect. Audio sync may have improved with the updated Kernel. I simply don't know. You will have to experiment.

No worries, thanks.

@dexx, I've been using the Aug image + Oct on off tar update only and using yamaha avr via hdmi, aac, ac3, dts, dd working just fine, never noticed any audio sync issue, but still can't get dts-hd and truehd to work for some reason but I don't want to go any further in this thread.
Since Dec release is up I think you can go straight from Aug image then Dec tar update and you should be up to date

Hi,

i use a GPIO IR receiver / the RemotePi Board (used guide by infinity85)
After updating to 7.1.1 (LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.tar) i get a error message on boot

"systemctl status systemd-modules-load.service" says:
systemd-modules-load[1040]: [[0;1;31mFailed to find module 'gpioplug-ir-recv'[[0m

Must something changed in ".config/modules-load.d/gpio-ir-recv.conf" or ".config/modprobe.d/blacklist-meson-ir_set-gpio-ir-nr.conf" after updating from 7.1.0 to 7.1.1?

I bet that Kernel Module was not on the .config compiler list when I change over to the new Kernel...will have a look.

EDIT Its definitely configured for compiling.... CONFIG_IR_GPIOPLUG_CIR=m

Double check you used the correct Dec.tar as well. Not the media_build one. ?

Not media_build, i used the links in:
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid ... pid2472196
to download:
LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.img.gz
LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.tar
and then updating with the .tar file my LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.0.HotPlug installation.

@wrxtasy
Thanks for this new release. I like this one most!

There is only one issue that bothers me.
3D auto switching isn't working with this release. (Can someone confirm this?)
Is there a way to get this feature back?

@Merlin.KIS, please try the following version. I've added a few IR GPIO modules to the Kernel:

LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.IR-GPIO

Can you tell me exactly what hardware you are using, pls supply a link for development purposes ?

@grappi, I suspect its a new Kernel config issue again.. I will tweak and do another version.

@wrxtasy
Thank you, but noting changed ... still error message

I use the same hardware like infinity85:
RemotePi Board now fully compatible (shutdown & boot via IR)

The Board is from msldigital.com
It uses a TSOP38238 and TSOP 4838
you can see at: http://www.msldigital.com/pages/more-information under the "The Hardware" headline

PS: Jumping back to 7.1.0 brings the IR back to life

SSH in and type lsmod at post up the output from LE 7.1.0 pls.

Personally I suspect you are going to have to ask infinity85 because when I do

Code: Select all

modprobe gpio-ir-recv

the module loads. So whatever script mods have been done may need tweaking. I cannot do that without hardware.

Sry, for writing again

I used the How to enable GPIO-IR receiver (and disable Odroids built-in IR receiver) from infinity85
The same you linked in your first post (Add a GPIO IR receiver - by infinity85)

After removing ".config/modules-load.d/gpio-ir-recv.conf"* and ".config/modprobe.d/blacklist-meson-ir_set-gpio-ir-nr.conf"** the error massage in 7.1.1 is gone
but only the internel IR is working

*) content of ".config/modules-load.d/gpio-ir-recv.conf":
gpio-ir-recv
gpioplug-ir-recv

**) content of ".config/modprobe.d/blacklist-meson-ir_set-gpio-ir-nr.conf":
blacklist meson-ir
options gpioplug-ir-recv gpio_nr=238 active_low=1

you see, everything is like the "Add a GPIO IR receiver - by infinity85" guide

I will write a pm to infinity85

Hi,

that was quick.
But I'm afraid it's still not working.
What surprises me is that it worked once!
I've tried it several times and there was one attempt (and only one) when the TV switched to 3D mode but returned immediately back to 2D mode. Strange!

As already written in pm I will look into it on sunday and can hopefully come around with something about it :/

Quick workaround though:
If you ignore those both files (move them away), then you can use the onboard IR-receiver for controlling LibreELEC and the RemotePi boards receiver for powering on and off. So you actually shouldn't notice any difference in daily usage. Don't worry about double presses or so, because you also won't specify a GPIO for RemotePi IR when leaving the files (line: options gpioplug-ir-recv gpio_nr=238 active_low=1), so kodi/libreelec can't listen to the remotePi boards IR receivers commands.
Powering on and off will still work flawlessly, because these two commands are only interpreted inside the RemotePi Boards microcontroller for this sole purpose. Just don't forget to use the safe shutdown scripts that I mentioned in the guide.

I hope this will work for you at first. I'm back home on sunday and will install wrxtasys new release to see what's happening :?

@wrxtasy
Great to see a new release, thought everybody is fully into Krypton :D

In new version, i have the phenomenon that the MAC address change. After updating to LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.tar i have anothe MAC address as with LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.0.Oct.On.Off.tar. and if i Update from LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.tar to LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.3D.tar i have also another MAC Address. Thats very strange.

Hi, short update from my side

LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.3D.tar is working good with my Samsung TV and 3D-files, i will start a beamer 3D test this evening (but i think this will work too).

I removed .config/modules-load.d/gpio-ir-recv.conf" and ".config/modprobe.d/blacklist-meson-ir_set-gpio-ir-nr.conf" and now both IR work.
My RemotePi Board has a external IR receiver on cable, so i put the C2 in a box and let only the external IR receiver outside ... and it worked !???
It worked without any GPIO definition (???), i can control and boot/shutdown LE like before. Don't know why ... but okay ... it is like it is ... i will put the C2 back in my old dvd player case and have fun :D

Thank you very much wrxtasy

Glad its working again.

And now its Back to the Future with a bug fix MAC address .tar and all that I have done so far.

LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.r5p1.tar

I will let you guys work out what r5p1 stands for, but it sure has made a nice improvement to LE Kodi usability.

Sadly 3D auto switching is not working for me. :(
With 7.1.0 everything is fine, but with later releases I have to switch my TV (LG 9209) manually.

@grappi
in the lunch break i test some more files with tv connection
and noticed (unfortunately) that it's fifty fifty.
Some files work with auto switch, some only manually.

Just to share my experiences earlier
Updated mine with r5p1 tar above and pretty straight forward, no issue
Then my itchy fingers wanting more, update with ddr tar and got kernel panic
Tried copying kernel and system files as suggested in the other thread and even replacing boot.ini, nothing works, either kernel panic or won't boot up at all

So I started over and here's exactly what I did:
1. put emmc to my windows laptop, run libreelec usb sd creator and flash with aug image, eject
2. put emmc to c2 then bootup, setup a few things
3. samba to c2 and copy ddr tar to update folder then restart c2
4. update successful then ssh to c2 then wget then ./ram 1104 got confirmation ram now set to 1104 then reboot
5. bootup successfully to kodi, shut down
6. put emmc to laptop, run notepad++ and open boot.ini then add # in front of 1536 then remove # in front of 1752, save, eject
7. put emmc to c2 then bootup, all good
8. samba to c2 and copy r5p1 tar to update folder then restart c2
9. update successful and kodi is up

And now I have latest Dec update with 1752MHz CPU and 1104MHz RAM, wohooooo!!
I'm a happy camper.
Although my tar backup doesn't seem to work after restoring it, not sure why but no biggie I'll just reconfigure everything

Thanks again @wrxtasy sorry if I've been a pain in the a** haha

Ha Ha.
Looks like I did not make myself clear enough saying the DDR OverClock stuff was actually already in the Dec / r5p1.tar update all ready to go out of the gate. Just use the r5p1.tar update if using any previous LE version and your good to go to use the RAM Overclock script.

I've changed the file to download in the DDR3 RAM Overclock thread. Incase anyone gets confused. Its now the same as the LE 7.1.1 r5p1 .tar update.

I suggest doing the r5p1.tar update again if you want the latest December release as it sounds like you are still running the old October - DDR.tar Nothing will break. Promise. ;)

Thanks for the update Wrxtasy!

I had some probs I thought I would mention: Upgraded from Oct to Dec and then to r5p1 and both newer versions play some videos fine but others with slow audio (aac 22k) ie: lower pitch voice.

And whenever I turn on the tv, kodi was sitting at the shutdown prompt.

Just thought I would let you know.

Update to 7.1.1 went fine on both my C2's.

Strange that my Microsoft MCE remote stopped working after the update though.

Ah yeah sorry just read through your first post again and you did say ability to overclock RAM is included, my bad.
I missed a few steps there and actually did update with r5p1 tar file after all those and yes it didn't break :D
It says libreelec 7.1.1 when bootup, and in kodi settings/system info it does say december built
So I think I'm good now?

I wonder if I can extract the backup tar file and copy the folders manually to emmc and get all my settings and configs, add-ons back as before?
I tried restoring it via libreelec config twice last night (once with confluence skin, no change and another restore after i installed aeon mq7 skin) but nothing seems to be restored.
What I did was did a backup via libreelec config and saved it to backup folder in emmc then copy that to my laptop then after reimaging it I copied it back to emmc backup folder and go to libreelec config then do restore from the tar file in the emmc backup folder.

I think I know what the issue is. A LE master patch infected Lirc. Easily fixed.

I do not know the exact reason for the preference. But my guess is the new linux-amlogic kernel does not have this fix: https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/com ... d454583194
in the kernel, so the fps of the ui is limited to 30 when using r6p1. It is probably better to cherry pick this commit from the odroid repo than revert the driver. In the ideal situation hardkernel and libreelec should join force to merge the changes and reduce duplicated efforts. However I do not think either side is very eager to do this...

Both myself and @kszaq have tested that HardKernel commit previously with LE and r6p1 and it produced inferior results.
GUI Tearing is inevitable when you ignore VSync.

We do not need the improvements r6p1 brings for LE Kodi Jarvis anyway because we are not running a X Windowed Linux Desktop.

Hi wrxtasy.

I've just done a clean install of the LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.Dec.img.gz release.

It appears the H265 playing then freezing bug is back.

the fix suggested in that thread is indeed still working.

in .config create Autostart.sh
echo 16 > /sys/module/amvdec_h265/parameters/dynamic_buf_num_margin

Hi,

Updated my C2 with the LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.LIRC.tar hoping that my MCE remote would function again. Unfortunately it didn't. I tried the suggestion:

Code: Select all

cp /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.amremote /storage/.config/lircd.conf
reboot
Still the MCE remote doesn't work. The hardkernel remote does still work though but that has way to few options/buttons.

Any tips to get the MCE working again?

TIA

Greetz,

Sjonnie

Hi @wrxtasy,
Thanks for the awesome work!
Unfortunately (for me ) this version seems to have audio sync problems on the most basic content (SD or 720p, played on 1080 resolution) and I can't seem to find any reasons for it.
I'm attaching a log just in case - is there anything I can check to see that hardware decoding is working as it should?

Thanks in advance!

please type "irw" in shell an see what happend when you hit some buttons on the MCE / hardkernel remote

then CTRL-C and type:

Code: Select all

killall lircd
/usr/sbin/lircd --driver=default --device=/dev/lirc0 --uinput /storage/.config/lircd.conf
and try "irw" again

hm, not good...this means LE is not loading the "/storage/.config/lircd.conf"
(looks familiar...when I think back to OE)

fast workaround:

Code: Select all

nano /storage/.config/autostart.sh
and insert:

Code: Select all

killall lircd
/usr/sbin/lircd --driver=default --device=/dev/lirc0 --uinput /storage/.config/lircd.conf </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1 &
This will change the lirc.conf before kodi starts

I did not get time to add release notes. But with that LIRC.tar update, there has been a new setting added into:
Kodi > System > LibreELEC > Services > Lirc (bottom of page)

You may have to re-enable Lirc with this LIRC.tar version.

Hi.

I've upgraded from 7.1.0 using this versión

Code: Select all

LibreELEC-Odroid_C2.aarch64-7.1.1.LIRC.tar 09-Dec-2016 10:34 146216960
and my dvb tuner (also a dvb_usb_dib0700 based dual tv tuner) is not working anymore. I don't know if I must use the media build version (which is missing in wrxtasy.libreelec.tv right now).

Here is my log: http://pastebin.com/zNmjFL35

Thanks in advance.
