GL852G USB HUB investigation

Unread post by kumpisteszta9 » Tue May 28, 2019 3:20 am

Hi there!

This is kind of a follow up to my other thread: viewtopic.php?f=141&t=34977

I managed to get my hands on a Asus TinkerBoard S (running TinkerOS) which has the same GL852G USB HUB as the ODROID-C2.
HOWEVER in case of the TinkerBoard the hub works fine, there are no speed nor latency issues. The same serial tests I ran on the C2 work fine on the TinkerBoard.
So in my opinion the GL825G is fine, in case of the C2 the speed problem comes from the driver.

Would it be possible for someone at Hardkernel to take a look at the HUB driver in the TinkerOS and compare it with the driver in the ODROID-C2 linux?

Thanks.

EDIT: Tested the copying data on the TinkerBoard from /dev/zero to a USB pendrive, it's possible to reach speeds up to 24MB/s.

Mass storage USB host driver should not have a problem.
Try a same test (copying zero device file to a USB flash) on the C2 too.
As far as I remember, we could get near 20~25MB/sec with a USB 2.0 storage device.

The slow traffic issue occurred only when we connected a USB 1.x full-speed device not a 2.0 high-speed device.

I tested FTDI FT232 and CH341 based USB 1.1 full-speed devices, they work fine on the TinkerBoard and they have latency issues on the C2.

We still have no idea why only the full-speed mode have the issue while the high-speed mode had no issue with the MTT driver.
