Hi joy I retired my Sandisk card to a digital camera, I will pull photos off it and retry in C2 over the next week for you. The patch looks very promising. Thanks for your work.

Hi.
The commit to fix the reboot issue has been merged and released.
Please update ubuntu package.

Code: Select all

# sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -y
And the version is -112.

Code: Select all

root@odroid64:~# uname -a
Linux odroid64 3.14.79-112 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon May 8 11:19:14 BRT 2017 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux
And for Android, I will share the version once we release a new version including this patch.

Any feedback will be helpful.
Thanks.

My C2, running the current Ubuntu image, doesn't always reboot properly, too. The reboots sometimes end in a black screen where nothing else happens. Then, when I manually power cycle, the boot is only sometimes successful and sometimes not. If you need further info, let me know.

SD card is Transcend 64 GB. Not sure how to get the exact model info.

What happens if you change the UHS mode option in boot.ini file?

I couldn't reproduce the reboot issue with an 8GB eMMC.
Do you use our Ubuntu image?

After an setup with this image, reboot only works with shutdown - r now works. Only the reboot command shut the odroid down.

Very weird.
Did you flash the OS image with "Etcher"?

For me, the problem happens reliably when rebooting after an upgrade that requires a reboot. So maybe the above test case is not capturing that situation.

The C2 hangs in the red light state and I have to physically power cycle to make it boot.

By contrast, rebooting when there has not been an upgrade does not seem to cause the problem, though I have not tested this frequently.

My details:

I have 2 Odroid C2. (Also 2 Odroid U2 which have never had this problem.) They have been running almost continuously for about a year.

OS image is the Ubuntu 16.04 from Hardkernel.

Boot device: 16GB eMMC card

I will try to reproduce the issue.
Let me know your eMMC module PCB color.

My eMMC is black with a red sticker (marked "16"). Thanks!

Edit: the cards were ordered (with C2s) from Ameridroid on 28 March 2017, in case that helps.

The black eMMC must have no issue with C2.

What is the current kernel version?
Show me "uname -a" output.

The kernel version is the latest one.

Can you try to run "reboot -f" instead of "reboot"?

@vjoel,
Could you let us know if you use any USB devices as odroid mentioned?

I use the same version of C2 and I have no issue with reboot.
To reproduce the issue, I've also tried to set back to a older version of 116 and then re-install the new version, but still reboot works. :(
Is there any your custom modifications like installing additional packages or adjusting system setup?

Hi, thanks for the response, and apologies for my delayed response.

I put one of the C2 through a sequence of boot cycles, with results as follows:

1. `reboot` -> hang, requiring manual power cycle
2. `reboot -f` -> successful
3. `reboot` -> successful for 9 iterations of this step

Since the one failure happened on the first try, maybe that happened because of a previous update? (Just a wild guess.)

I will try `reboot -f` after the next update.

Each unit has just one USB attachment. One has a 1TB WD MyPassport HD (power over USB). This is the one I've been experimenting on. The other has a thumb drive.

The hang state is apparently not caused by a long timeout. I've occasionally left one unit hung for days until a local power failure caused it to reboot.

Trying to find something in the notes I wrote about my setup that might matter:

1. These are the only uncommented lines in my boot.ini.default:

vout=dvi
nographics=1

(I don't remember a reason for the vout setting.)

2. I disabled the odroid script that waits 60s and then sets cpu governor to "interactive". According to my notes: `update-rc.d ondemand disable`

3. Custom automount scripts for usb devices. https://github.com/vjoel/usb-automount/ ... ocal.rules

4. Installed fake-hwclock to fix the "Feb 11 2016" problem. viewtopic.php?f=139&t=19172&p=127327

That's everything that seems boot-related.

If you're going to use reboot -f, make sure to run sync before, because it doesn't bother to unmount your disks or to cleanup anything.

Hi vjoel,
I will try to sync with your environment and reproduce the issue.
Before that, can I ask some?

1.
Have you tried "reboot" after removing your USB devices?
Can you check if you have the same issue without any USB devices?

2.
And with your USB storage, could you do sync first and then try reboot?

Code: Select all

$ sync
$ reboot

I will try removing the usb disk for the next reboot that is required by an upgrade. (In other cases, rebooting seems fine.) That might take a while, since that kind of upgrade only seems to happen every few weeks, but I'll let you know what happens...
