OdroidC2 - RJ45/Ethernet no network

Post by olive12 »

Hello,

I bought an OdroidC2 (rev0.2 20160226) some years ago, I used it twice, and stop use it. (ethernet working)
This week, I try it for a project but I can't have network.

- Not light on ethernet connector.

I try
- different cable,
- different network plug
- difference linux image (libreelec, ubuntu, armbian...)

nothing work

RJ45 jack components haven't any inscription or version code engraved (I see another post which speaking bad pin contact issue on some hardware)

you can see dmesg output :

Code: Select all

     [ 7.565853] meson8b-dwmac c9410000.ethernet eth0: PHY [stmmac-0:00] driver [RTL8211F Gigabit Ethernet]
     [ 7.597289] meson8b-dwmac c9410000.ethernet eth0: No Safety Features support found
     [ 7.597304] meson8b-dwmac c9410000.ethernet eth0: PTP not supported by HW
     [ 7.597314] meson8b-dwmac c9410000.ethernet eth0: configuring for phy/rgmii link mode

And if I Connect RJ45, it's don't add any log in dmesg

I also try :

Code: Select all

cat /sys/class/net/eth0/carrier
like this post but don't work

thank you

Does your eth0 have a correct and static mac address?

It should start with 00:1e:06 and remain the same accross reboots. If it doesn't, it indicates an issue with efuse.

So there is device interrupt 20 but I don't have "code 20" in root@odroidc2:~#cat /proc/interrupts

Likely it's due to electrical shock, this happened to one of my XU4 after lightning knocked out my power and I've been using USB Ethernet ever since.

Hello odroid,
I've tested Ubuntu Mate 18.04.3 and yes, the Ethernet interface (eth0) works fine but unfortunately the Bluetooth functionality works only partly.
Bluetooth connects to other Bluetooth devices but impossible to transfer files to or from the ODROID-C2 device so I started to susspect the bluetooth driver
and therefore moved to a pure new kernel 5.10 (without Ubuntu distro files) but in this new kernel I was totally unable to bring up the Ethernet interface instead
(eth0) and that I believe has something to do with the device tree definition (meson-gxbb-odroidc2.dtb) that is totally different from the one (meson64_odroidc2.dtb)
included in the kernel.3.16 of Ubuntu Mate 18.04.3 distribution.
Now my questions are:
1- Have you also experienced the same Bluetooth problem in Ubuntu Mate 18.04.3 distro? If not then please advice me how to go about.
2- Is there any plan for releasing a working device tree package of files for later kernels than 3.16?

Thanks in advance.

We didn't test the file transfer protocol. We just tested some Bluetooth audio devices with A2DP protocol.
BTW, which Bluetooth adapter do you use?

No. We have no plan to support any upstream kernel.

If you don't need any HW GPU/VPU acceleration, consider trying the Armbian OS images.

Looking at kernel.org right now, the latest upstream kernel is 5.9-rc7 -- a kernel 5.10 does not exist (yet)?
(but I have a 5.7.x kernel running and so far have not observed any problems with networking)

Correct, the revision was wrong, it is indeed 5.9.
Thanks, I'll try Armbian.
