Android not working after flash/update

Post by cs10 »

I have been mulling over may posts here before I decided to ask for help. I have the Odroid C-2 and have been running an old version of android, I believe 5.1, which was working fine but wanted to update to version 5.7. After flashing and plugging in the screen with the android character and "installing system updates" was up for several minutes and then stopped projecting an image. I unplugged and plugged the power. The screen with hardkernel logo appeared briefly. The screen size seemed off with logo offset in left upper corner. The bottom half of the screen had that "snow" appearance like you get on an old tv that you turn to the wrong channel. Then the picture turned off and could not get past that screen. The red light stays on the whole time even when the screen turns off. The blue light continues flashing the whole time. Is my SD card messed up?

Odroid C2
ScanDisk Ultra Plus 32gb SD card
Usb adapter SmartQ
I downloaded android marshmallow v5.7 self install from the odroid wiki page. I actually tried using several older versions and had the same result each time.
Unzipped with 7z program. (pc windows 10)
Used etcher after file was unzipped( I had the error message "missing partition table. It looks like this is not a bootable image"). I clicked continue and it put all the files onto the SD card.
Also tried with win32
After using etcher the files on SD card include boot, bootlogo, display, edid, and image android
Red and blue lights remain illuminated, does not seem like a power issue.

I tried using 2 different SD cards and two different card readers

I hope this is enough info and leads to an easy fix. Thanks in advance for any help

I've tried to write selfinstall-odroidc2-eng-s905_6.0.1_master-122-v5.7.img on SD card and it worked well.

Can you write other SD card or do raw format SD card?

I purchased a new micro SD card(scandisk ultra plus 32g) and used a different card reader today. Unfortunately I am running into the same problem. Is there a way to trouble shoot that my odroid has crapped out? The Odroid worked perfect before I attempted load android v5.7

Did you "selfinstall-odroidc2-eng-s905_6.0.1_master-122-v5.7.img.xz" file with Etcher? Don't extract it.

How was the red and blue LEDs on the C2 board?

I did try " "selfinstall-odroidc2-eng-s905_6.0.1_master-122-v5.7.img.xz" file with Etcher without extracting. I tried extracting and using win32 also.

The red light stays solid the whole time. The blue light starts solid and the blinks in twos...blink blink...blink blink...
The lights stay on even when the image stops projecting.

Everytime and every version I try the installing system updates screen pops up, then the hard kernel screen, and the the hard kernel screen gets all snowy on the bottom half and the logo goes up to the top left. After a few seconds the screen turns off but all the lights on the odroid stay on

It looks normal.
In the first booting, it might take up to several minutes to complete the self-installation process.
Once the installation process is done, the system shuts down automatically.
And unplug the DC plug and plug it again to start the OS.
When the OS Kernel is running, the blue LED keeps blinking like heart beat.

Image

The load screen pops up for several minutes then shuts off. When I unplug and then plug the odroid back in this is the screen that comes up and then it stops projecting an image. The odroid remains on

How is the blue LED? Is it flashing like heartbeat?

What is the native resolution of the TV?
Do you have another 1080p monitor for testing?

If your TV is 4K, bootsplash is displayed like your photos.
It stucked at kernel.
So I think your SD card is not compitable.

I'm using the same sd card that worked before the flash so I'm not sure how it would be incompatible. Why would it be incompatible now? How would you troubleshoot?

I was previously using this for Kodi/YouTube on the TV. I tried using 2 different TV's, not sure of the resolution. The TVs that it worked on previously no longer work with the odroid. I don't have another monitor to test. Why would it not work on these TV's after the update? I plan to use the TV as my monitor.

Yes the blue light continues to blink like a heart beat
