Set up an encrypted NAS on Odroid-C2 or Rasbperry 3 with OpenMediaVault

15 pages step by step manual:

How it looks like:

Thank you for the valuable setup instruction. NAS system in a Trash looks fun :)

I think you will have much faster storage access speed If you use the separated USB host port for the second HDD via USB OTG host port on C2.

Thank you. Good idea! I will try. Especially write operations will profit. I added a note to the article.

The USB OTG host port was not recognized with my Debian 8 kernel (I think 3.13). Do you need a special boot option/patch/ or minimum kernel version?

To increase encryption performance on C2 check out this thread: viewtopic.php?f=136&t=22236
You might need to recompile openssl but in theory you should get better performance for larger blocks of data. Note that you risk breaking your system so try on a development system if possible.

I updated the manual http://getreu.net/public/downloads/doc/encrypted-raid1-nas/ correcting some typos and errors. Current version is 1.7. It does not rely on OpenMediaVault plug-ins for setting up encryption.
