Can the fan and heatsink on the XU3 be replaced with the heatsink used on the XU4Q? The fan starting and stopping and squeaking is very annoying. I haven't been able to find the software used to manually control the fan speed on my installation as there is no /sys/devices/odroid_fan.xu3 that I can find.

The XU3 itself is great if it wasn't for the constant squeaking.

Yes it can, you may need to reduce the frequency of the big cores to prevent thermal throttling depending on work load.

@berkelium are you using 3.10.x kernel if not for 4.14.x kernel we have new guideline to control fan speed.

Code: Select all

Thanks for the replies.

Yes I am using the 4.x kernel. I have adjusted the fan settings for now but having the fan on to reduce the noise of it starting and stopping is probably not good for the long run. I will look at replacing the fan & heatsink with the XU4Q heatsink.

Is there anyway to force the Odroid to automatically shutdown if the temperature of the CPU gets past a certain setpoint?

Yes it does it automatically. Do you mean is there a way to change the temperature at which this happens?
