USB Audio adapter d- distorted recorded sound

Post by ksubox »

Hello,

ODROID-C2 with last updated official Android version - http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... se_android.
Playback sound is OK. Recorded sound has spikes/interruptions and sometimes distorted.
We need stable audio input/output. What should we do ?

What USB Audio adapter you are using?

Does it have a line input or mic input?

Bought from Hardkernel https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/usb-audio-adapter/
So I expected it would work without any problem.

What kind of signal you are pushing to it?

I tested mike, then tested line from Behringer mixer - with big range of mixer signal and checked for overflow.
Even with mike without speaking I can hear interruptions & spikes, if I speak (with very low volume) I also can hear distortion.
Here is recorded .wav http://mp3.tvsori.com/testmic.wav

PS: I also found another simple USB Audio stick - result is veeeeery similar.

We will check the sample rate settings in the Android audio framework.

We checked wav with Adobe audition - looks like from time to time we lose 30-40 samples during recording.

Do you think the sample-rate-converter in Android audio flinger can be a root cause?

Not sure, at least I also recorded mike with 48000 sampling rate and got same approximately 40 samples lost.
If I would be developer I would say buffer processing is wrong. May be not fast enough and overwritten ?

Thanks to ODROID-XU4 board, I installed original Kit-Kat version from Hardkernel http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... se_android, USB Audio adapter plays well, but does not capture anything. Then I update to Voodik's latest Lollipop - and everything works - no lost samples, no distortion.

Anyway I need USB Audio adapter to work with C2.

PS: Updated to Voodik's 6.0 - USB Audio adapter doesn't capture again.

We will try to port Voodik's XU4 CM12.1 Lollipop resampler framework to C2 Android BSP.
But it seems to be very complicated. :(

Thank you very much.

Probably I also should start to dive into Android internals...

I just ordered a Odroid C2 with Ubuntu installed and the Odroid USB audio card.

Any known problems?

I just received USB sound adapters (the Hardkernel one) but I can't get any audio out of the USB adapter. Audio is always routed to HDMI. I've upgraded my Android to the latest (June) version. There's just some noise (hiss) on the headphone output.

EDIT: I tested with ODroid C2, of course.

Sorry for the late reply. I think the problem was caused by HDMI audio output - when I plugged the USB audio adapter to another C2 with no audio capable HDMI device (a projector), the USB adapter worked just fine.
