[FIX] HDMI port

Post by germankey »

After a couple months of regular usage the HDMI port started to loosen up and the signal would drop at an increasing rate untill you manually had to adjust and apply force to the cable for it to work. During a near succesfull repair attempt the plastic center snapped off. I have bought the C2 from Pollin with all the receipts and original boxes still in my possession. Is it possible to have the HDMI port repaired by Pollin or Hardkernel :?: . In case sending over a replacement HDMI port for me to solder on the C2 is an option, I would apreciate contact from an employee.

Hardkernel is currently on a short brake, but you should post a picture of the damage. Also, considering shipping costs and the repair fee I think it might be cheaper to buy a new C2, or take it to a local phone repair shop where somebody hopefully has the necessary soldering skills

I think the replacing (desoldering and soldering) the HDMI connector can cause other damages on the C2 board.
Please contact Pollin with a URL of this thread for the RMA.
Or try other HDMI cable.

Re: [FIX] HDMI port: connector replacement

It would really be useful if HK could inform their customers what the HDMI problem is about.
In my case, it also seems to be a problem with the connector itself.
If it's the HDMI connector that's defective, it would be nice to know the Part Number and Manufacturer
of the HDMI connector (maybe a Digikey reference number ??) so that one can replace it.
Information about the footprint of this connector would also be helpful, since this could also help
to find a suitable replacement for it.

Has someone already tried to desolder the connector and replace it ?

HDMI Connector manufacturer is FOOSUNG (a local vendor in Korea which is a supplier for Samsung and LG TVs).
Part Number is FD05015-19.

Thanks for the Data.
Maybe I can find an HDMI connector with a similar footprint at Digikey or another
supplier here in Europe.

A possible replacement could be the HDMI 2.0 connector from Switchcraft, RAHHD19TR.
It's available from Digikey (Digi-Key Part Number = 137-RAHHD19CT-ND) See attached Datasheet.
It has essentially the same footprint (0.5 mm pitch, 19 pins). The through hole pins have also the
same distances to another.
This connector is also available at Mouser and Farnell in Europe.
