release timeout not functioning HK remote LIRC-.0.10.0

Unread post by richard-g8jvm » Fri Feb 08, 2019 11:30 pm

Hi
On my C2 this works

Code: Select all

[lircd-uinput]
add-release-events = True
release-timeout = 150
release-suffix = _EVUP

on my sons which a clone of mine
the key repeat is still to fast
I have set on his

Code: Select all

[lircd-uinput]
add-release-events = True
release-timeout = 800
release-suffix = _EVUP

up to about 200 there is some effect but after this its still too fast

any ideas ???

I think it's needed to adjust repeat delay through lircrc conf file.
http://www.lirc.org/html/configure.html -> [ The lircrc file format ]

Let's try it.

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.16.62-35 aarch64)
Linux version 3.16.62-35 (root@builder_n2) (gcc version 7.3.0 (Ubuntu/Linaro 7.3.0-16ubuntu3) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 23 05:14:46 -02 2019

The offending C2 is a clone of my C2 , which functions OK, and no problems with repeat key time out, and NO ./config/lirc
The repeat timeout was OK with lirc-0.9.0 , but I have replaced lirc-0.9.0 with lirc-0.10.0 on BOTH C2s and mine is OK and my sons is not.
APT update & upgrade was run last friday so the other C2 is up to date.

I did set up port forwarding on my sons router, but although that is running the same software as mine, it looks as if his ISP has a firewall
which is stopping me being able to ssh the other C2. But I can park outside his house and use his wifi to gain access to the C2
I'm also suspicious of lirc documentation
looking at updating from older versions you find this:-
Remove the config files, if you don't need them anymore:

rm -rf /etc/lirc/
rm -f ~/.config/lircrc
That would explain why I dont have them on my C2
When I installed lirc-0.10.1 on my sons C2 , I copied the whole directory /etc/lirc from my C2 and use SFTP to copy on to my sons C2 in to ~/Public
then moved them to /etc.
It sorta half works, it slows down the key repeat, but not enough ,

TIA

Now I totally understand what your problem is.
Only the C2 of your son has the issue only with lirc-0.10.0.

Yesterday, I've also tested lircrc by both way of (1) generating ~/.config/lirc (2) adjusting /etc/lirc/irexec.lircrc
and I found the approach doesn't work to adjust key for device level.
And now I'm trying to adjust parameters of key conf file like "gap", "repeat_time" or something.

Could you share all files under /etc/lirc/* and syslog under /var/log/syslog of the C2 of your son?

I can share the contents on /etc/lirc as it the same as mine
syslog is a little harder as I have to drive to another town, sit outside with the laptop and log in to his wifi
I have set up port forwarding on his router, but cant reach it, ISP firewall ??? .
His router doesn't repond to a ping or trace route. and there is a VPN used on the C2
so it could be that causing problems with the routing, it shouldn't as the VPN is in the London area

The files I've used are the same as those on the HK wiki for /etc/lirc
Its very strange , it should work, next time I go over I'll swap the remote with mine, it may be that
Thanks for taking the time to play with the settings

ISP firewall ???
Offtopic, but a lot of ISPs are implementing Carrier-Grade NAT these days and that will not allow you to set up port forwards. If the WAN IP address you're seeing on you son's router is from 100.64.0.0/10, then he's behind NAT.

Hello richard-g8jvm,
If you have to spend your time much to gain your son's lirc data, don't try it.
And you already said that all configurations are same as C2 LIRC wiki page describes.

Let's figure out the root cause and find a good solution, more.
Still I haven't found any good way to adjust device level repeat time. :(

Anyway, can I ask one?
Around your son's C2, is there any fluorescent lamp that can cause ir interference?
I know my question can be silly,
but I have seen the kind of issue with C2 and my office environment before.
My issue was...
when I sent 'A' key signal, rarely the event was repeated in some duration even though I didn't send repeated 'A' key,
at the moment, I tried another 'B' key with SEND_ONCE, the event was changed to 'B'.
I don't have the issue now, but I haven't found the root cause.
