Unable to install LibreELEC on new EMMC

Unread postby hollywoodpete » Sat Apr 14, 2018 10:16 pm

I just bought a new EMMC memory module and thought installing LibreELEC would be a breeze. I used the USB Creator utility and downloaded the stable release. I put the new EMMC in the Odroid C2 after removing the old SD and plugged it in. My first error is "Error in mount_flash: mount:common:Could not mount /dev/mmcbblk0p1 #starting debugging shell
What am I doing wrong?

Try echer or windisk32 image writer software.

If both dose not work try to boot using sdcard + emmc then flash the image using below command to eMMC module.
Code: Select all
 dd if=sdimage.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=4M

once complete remove the sdcard and boot using eMMC module.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried it using echer but I get the same message.
I tried to boot with both the SDcard in place and the eMMC in place and get the same message. It appears to want to boot from the eMMC card first. I removed the eMMC card and booted with the SDcard and then installed the eMMC and used the Distroy Disc (dd) code "dd if=sdimage.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=4M" which resulted in dd: can't open 'sdimage.img': No such file or directory

Try to use Etcher without uncompressing the LibreELEC OS image.
https://wiki.odroid.com/troubleshooting ... s#flashing

As @rooted mentioned, let us know the file name you flashed.

I used Etcher on both the uncompressed ISO and compressed iso and it didn't appear to do anything. The uncompressed iso didn't boot the oDroid. I actually just used the code that was given "dd if=sdimage.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=4M" and didn't choose a file. I also tried to flash it using dd if=/dev/mmcblk0p1 of=/usb/mountpoint of the eMMC with the eMMC plugged into the USB writer on the oDroid. Unfortunately I wont be able to do much for a couple of days since my daughters golden retriever puppy chewed up my USB SD writer and the eMMC writer when I wasn't looking. I currently do have a booted LibreELEC oDroid with the SD card mounted at /dev/mmcblk0p1 flash partition and /dev/mmcblk0p2 as the storage. The eMMC is connected on the board but does not appear to be recognized or mounted. I am able to ssh into the device

I received my USB eMMC writer today. I flashed the img.gz image using Etcher. It appeared to be successful. Put it in my C2 and booted. I got the splash screen followed by "Error in mount_flash: mount:common:Could not mount /dev/mmcbblk0p1 #starting debugging shell I'm starting to think my eMMC may be defective?

Can you flash this official Ubuntu image to check your eMMC?
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-c2/os_images/ubuntu/v2.4

Flash "ubuntu64-16.04.3-mate-odroid-c2-20170927.img.xz" with Etcher without extracting.

I downloaded and flashed. It looked like it was loading fine initially but got stuck at:

Gave up waiting for root device.

Please check the md5sum value.

Was there any issue while Etcher validating?
If not, your eMMC or C2 might have a hardware problem.

Did you have no problem with SD card?

md5sumis fine
No issues while Etcher was validating
My C2 works fine with an SD card.
I only wanted to switch to eMMC to make the device a little faster. I think I may just have a bad eMMC. I guess the next step is to contact Ameridroid?

I think eMMC may be more sensitive to low power condition.

What power supply are you using?

What does your eMMC look like?

So now I am really confused. Is my eMMC just not compatable? Is this one ok? https://ameridroid.com/products/32gb-em ... e-c2-linux

Odd that they would sell the USB3.0 writer as an option if it doesn't work with this stick

No it isn't compatible with the black eMMC, he should have notified you of that.

To be fair to it does state it doesn't work with the black eMMC, but you were going by sticker color which confused you. It should be made more clear.
