Audio issue with Ach Linux

Unread postby Gilles » Wed Nov 22, 2017 4:09 am

Hi there,

I've installed Arch Linux on a C2 and cannot get the sound to work properly. When I play a simple wav (the ones coming with alsa), I get a noisy, distorded sound.

I get the kernel is version 3.14.79-27. Based on the threads I could find, I've also added the file /etc/asound.conf:
Code: Select all
pcm.!default {
   type hw
   card 0
}
ctl.!default {
   type hw
   card 0
}

I've also tried to add
Code: Select all
pcm.rate_convert {
    type rate
    slave {
        pcm
        rate 44100
    }
}

I also tried to load some sound modules (snd-soc-pcm5102, snd-soc-pcm512x[-i2c], etc.).

The output when I play the wav file is (using aplay -v)
Code: Select all
Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono

Do you have the sound issue with the HDMI audio? or I2S device like our HiFi-Shield?
Can you try our Ubuntu image to narrow down root causes?

I'm using the HDMI outpout. FYI, I've tested the screen speakers with another box so I know it is not the problem.

I can definitely try the Ubuntu image but, in the meantime, do you have a check list to enable the sound on a C2? I checked your Wiki (very nicely done) but there is nothing about sound. I understand it is not enabled by default as I understand we need at least the asound.conf file.

Thanks,

Gilles

HDMI sound should work out of the box on Ubuntu. There is nothing to be configured manually.
