RTC Shield problem

Unread post by cioralut » Sat Feb 11, 2017 12:10 am

Hi odroid team.
I have ODROID-C2 with android 5.1.1 firmware version 2.04 (master 257).
Can RTC Shiled function with this version? I try it but it doesn't work :cry:
In your site http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:pcf8563rtc there is a guide for Android but only for Android 5.1 V2.8 and V2.9 images only...
Unfortunately I can not use the last firmware version because I have some problems with ethernet UDP broadcast and USB touch screen driver from version 2.5 ( see this post http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=23629 )

Best regards

Daniele

The batteries were low!
With the version android 5.1.1 2.04 after a reboot the RTC set the date and time but doesn't set the GMT!
For example:
Hong Kong --> 13 Feb 2017 16:13 AFTER REBOOT Hong Kong --> 13 Feb 2017 08:14 It is not added the +08:00 GMT

With the version android 5.1.1 3.00 the RTC function correctly but I had remove /storage/internal/boot.ini file and reboot system to get it going.

@odroid

From now on I think step one of debugging RTC issue is check CR voltage :)

Lately there were a few RTC issues, I was smiling but being authentic. Perhaps some of the other issues are a low/dead battery.

The battery should run 2~3 years at least.

Did you measure the battery voltage with a DMM?

Are the batteries you are replacing them with good batteries (Panasonic, Sony, etc..) or cheap Chinese junk?

Energizer, Maxell, Sony, 3 VOLTS code 2032
It is clear that there is a hardware problem. Probably I am unlucky and my 2 RTC SHIELD are bad.

It's extremely unlikely that you have two bad shields but I can't think of any reason other than hardware that would cause the battery to go dead in a short time.

We already shipped 4~5K of RTC Shield boards and there were only 3~4 defective ones.
So it should be really low possibility that you bought two damaged RTC Shields.

We will measure the RTC battery discharging rate when Android 5.1 V3.3 latest image in running mode as well as in shutdown mode early next week.

We cleanly installed Android 5.1 V3.3 image and measured the power consumption.
When C2 turns on, it consumes less than 1uA.
When C2 turns off, it consumes around 15uA.

According to CR2032 Panasonic datasheet, its nominal capacity is 225mAh.
http://www.cr2032.co/cms/prodimages/pan ... asheet.pdf
So its backup time could be around 15000 hours (~ two years).
If on/off ratio is 1:1, it can be 3~4 years.

Can you check the initial voltage of the battery and keep measuring it in every couple of hours to know the power drain?

I am running 5.1.1 LMY49M odroidc2-eng-s905_5.1.1_master-304
I am also having clock issues.
Should I be changing /storage/internal/boot.ini
from

Code: Select all

movi read dtb 0 ${dtbaddr}
# load kernel from vat or boot partition.
movi read boot 0 ${loadaddr}
#fatload mmc 0:1 ${loadaddr} Image
booti ${loadaddr} - ${dtbaddr}
to

Code: Select all

movi read dtb 0 ${dtbaddr}
# load kernel from vat or boot partition.
#movi read boot 0 ${loadaddr}
fatload mmc 0:1 ${loadaddr} Image
booti ${loadaddr} - ${dtbaddr}
as stated in the wiki?

or should I just leave the file alone as from the image?

or something else?

thanks

If you want to use RTC shield, you must use "movi read boot 0 ${loadaddr}" in boot.ini.

What do you have clock issue?
