How to install Google Play Store

Unread postby soadzoor » Thu Mar 10, 2016 12:24 am

Hi,
Can you guys help me to install google play store on android 5.1.1?
I've found an article to guide me here: http://codewalkerster.blogspot.hu/2016/02/google-play-store-on-odroid-c2.html

But I always get this "google play services has stopped" error message, which appears every couple of seconds, making the odroid unusable. I've already reinstalled the android 3 times now..

Thanks for any help

SOLUTION:
I put this link here, so the new ones don't have to read the whole thread to find the solution:
http://codewalkerster.blogspot.hu/2016/06/how-to-install-google-play-store-on.html

Remember: do NOT choose arm64 package!

All credit goes to this wonderful odroid community, and anyone who ever did anything to get us further

from odroid browser i went to:

http://www.odroid.in/mirror/dn.odroid.com/GAPPS/

and downloaded the lollipop one. Installed it, took a long time. restarted, launched it again, it restarted odroid once more, and after that I had play store.

Actually, I just started to get those annoying error messages again.. As soon as I "uninstalled" google play services, they stopped appearing, but this way I cannot use gmail for example.. But this is an issue I can live with

Oh, crap. Not again. I had this error forever on C1/C1+
I really hoped HK would fix it in C2 and Android 5.1 but apparently not. FML :(

Bump in hopes that bug gets fixed. Google Play is invaluable if you seek ease of use.

My personal hope is that some Android wizard will port ClockWorkMod(CWM) to the C2. For my old U2, the Cyanogenmod guys had made CWM 6.27, just unzip a file to the FAT32 partition and the next reboot you would startup in CWM.
Then you could easily install cyanogenmod, GAPPS pico, Xposed etc, without any problems. And make backups of the system which saved me many times when experimenting with Android. Very simple and effective solution. Keeping my fingers crossed :)

Did you guys update "Google Store" first and update "Google Play Services" later?
Otherwise, the play store didn't work correctly and we needed to flash the OS again. :(

So, what the process would be then? Download the lollipop .apk, install it, then allow the Store to auto-update first, and then Google Play Services?

Look at the 3~4 screenshots on bottom area in this link.
http://codewalkerster.blogspot.kr/2016/ ... id-c2.html

Problem is the update sequence is not clear.
So we need your help.
If you guys can find the latest Gapps package, please let us know.
We need to make newer one-click installer.

That guide worked for me, but unfortunately with the combunation:
Google Play: Updated
Play services: Updated
Youtube works, but when i start the sisaxis app, play services start to crash every few seconds

so now I'm running with the cofiguration
Google Play: Updated
Play services: updates unistalled
which solved the play services crash while using the sisaxis controller, but many games won't connect to google play games and youtube doesn't work.

Hope this will get fixed :)

Anyway, the gaming experience using the C2 on a 120" projected screen is awesome!

It seems to be 64bit for Android 5.x.
We can't use it due to the compatibility issue.

Humm...now I'm interested on the OpenGApps 'Pico' package (as I could't care less for GMail and such...I only need Chrome). You think I could easily install it on the C2?

There seems to be an ARM64 version of Android 5.1, too.

He, yeah it must be busy times at your office these days. But thats how it is when a new little one has arrived ;)

I have used the OpenGapps pico LolliPop 32-bit package on my U2 with Voodik's CM 12.1 image and they worked perfectly.

Could you please consider making a one-click-installer based on the pico package so only the PlayStore is installed? Users can then install what they need from the PlayStore afterwards , Gmail, YouTube etc. This way the Google cruft is keept at a minimum and no unnecessary Google services are running and stealing resources.

Still hoping though, that an Android-OS wizard would port ClockWorkMod for the C2, that would make life much easier for everyone. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I've noticed that there is a problem with Google Play Services app newer than 7.0.99.
Maybe it's related with new privileges of newer Google Play Services? For example: 7.3.26 asks for send SMS messages (this may cost you money).

Same issue. Have updated Google Play Store fine but trying to update to any newer version of Google Play Services causes endless popup errors. Have rolled Google Play Services back to 7.0.99 to get rid of the popup errors but things like Gmail, Twitch.tv, etc. do not work without the update.

Also Youtube doesn't work. But, for example, Skype also asks for newer Play Services, but it works with 7.0.99. Usually it asks for them once, just after start-up.

I guess, there is a problem in Odroid C2 android or kernel source. There are other devices using S905 and I haven't heard about this problem.

How did you roll back to 7.0.99 of Google Play Service?
Did you also clean the data & cache and delete the user account?

In my case all I had to do was go into Settings > Apps > All and uninstall Google Play Service update. Didn't have to clear data, cache, remove account or do anything else.

Just received my C2, and followed the tutorial on this thread for installing GApps. I updated GApps, installed YouTube and updated Play Services when it asked. After a while of working fine the "Play Services has stopped" error began to pop up :(

Also, I can't put videos higher than 720p on Chrome....any way to fix that as well?

It is. Go to the ODROID utility and change your resolution to 1080p.

After doing that I was able to choose the 1080p option on YouTube videos (well, the few of them that worked for me).

RTurala have you changed Kodi's YouTube add-on settings to 1080p? It defaults to 720p if you installed Kodi when using 720p Android screenmode. I can run YouTube fine in 1080p under Android, except my Google services keeps crashing due to an unrelated error.

Yes. I've configured everything for 1080p. The thing is that Kodi doesn't support DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP). You can read more about that here: 720p steaming. no 1080p and here: Feature Request - DASH support.

voodik - it's working for me :D I've done what you have written and I'm able to use YouTube app (in 1080p!) with updated Google Play Services - without any crash :D I'm going to check Skype also.

UPDATE 1:
Don't forget about su in Terminal emulator before voodik's instructions.

UPDATE 2:
Skype doesn't ask for new Google Play services anymore :D :D :D

UPDATE 3:
Google Maps also works.

My problem is somewhat different but similar. I had no errors about google play service (although I did notice Google Play Games does not work) but there is a game I am in love with that will not play and comes up with an error. Not sure if the game supports this system, but it does go so far as the loading screen :? checked the game's site and it does not seem to support ARM devices of any kind, and an announcement in the forum just says that third party apps on the device (basically rooting) is unsupported. But i had it run just fine on my old Ice Cream Sandwich Cyanogenmodded Acer tablet. :(

I have compiled APK with the changes in Android manifest but still occasionally FCs(but waaaayy less), I also saw Codewalkster already pushed change to his git. So currently best workaround was removing TelephonyProvider.apk instead :). Will take a look at the logcat once I have more time. Thanks a lot though for the awesome workaround fix.

I have a couple of issues with latest build 1.3 on my Odroid-C2.
1. I do not see an option to connect to Exchange server in GMail app. Only Google or IMAP/POP account types. On my phone I have option to connect to Exchange mailbox.
2. Mouse pointer is not an arrow, but a square that looks like a QR code.

1. Please compare the Gmail app version and let us know them.
2. We could meet the cursor issue rarely on V1.3. What is the native resolution of your display?

1. GMail versions are identical 6.3.117716127.release
2. My computer monitor's native resolution is 1080. I've notice that mouse pointer issue happens on 1080p60Hz. It is ok on 720p60Hz. The issue is now gone after I connected Odroid to my TV screen and back to my PC monitor.
