Kodi 18 (Leia) and TVHeadend client

Unread post by jason_a69 » Sun Feb 10, 2019 11:59 pm

Hi all,

I have upgraded Kodi to 18 and the TVHeadend client is having problems playing back live TV (mpeg format), video playback stutters like crazy. My guess is that hardware encoding is not enabled / working. Has anyone found a solution? Mx Player works fine with HW+.

Thanks

Jason

Thanks for your reply.

For the HTSP profile which the TVHeadend client uses, I cannot change the container. Am I missing something?

Actually...My Raspberry Pi TVHeadend server might struggle a bit if it was asked to do some trans coding.

It's not transcoding, for some reason this stutter happens due to transport streams (ts) container.

Under Stream -> Stream Profiles you need to make Matroska the default not htsp.

Be sure to click the save button after.

See screenshot.

Let me know if this fixes the issue.

Hi there,

Thanks for your help again.

I tried to set matroska as the default profile but it looks like, from the TVHeadend server logs, that the Kodi TVHeadend client only ever requests a profile type of htsp. I even set the profile setting specifically to matroska in the Kodi TVHeadend client settings and the client logged an error on screen "matroska not available"

This is from my log on the server

Code: Select all

Feb 11 05:47:26 Colly tvheadend[2970]: subscription: 002C: "x.x.x.x [ tvh | Kodi Media Center ]" subscribing on channel "BBC ONE Lon", weight: 150, adapter: "Silicon Labs Si2168 #0 : DVB-T #0", network: "DVB-T Network", mux: "490MHz", service: "BBC ONE Lon", profile="htsp", hostname="x.x.x.x", username="tvh", client="Kodi Media Center"
However, it looks like my internet connection was lousy yesterday and it is performing OK now with the htsp profile. I wonder why MX Player was ok though...ho hum.

So, just to confirm, "Allow Hardware Acceleration - MediaCodex (Surface)" & "Allow Hardware Acceleration - MediaCodex" are both set to on (if you change these settings, it is a good idea to reboot your Odroid).

So it works...just not sure why!
