I messed up quiet boot, not booting anymore

Unread post by att2 » Mon Oct 07, 2019 6:57 pm

Hello,
I somehow messed up the boot.ini in the latest Ubuntu 18.04.3 image. What I wanted to have is a quiet-boot, without any text being displayed when booting.
What I did: I added the string "quiet" to the boot command line in the boot.ini ; I also removed the "console" stuff in the boot.ini.default file after the serial parameters.
My result is that now the Odroid C2 does not boot anything anymore, despite the blue led keeps blinking. :(

I tried to move the SD-Card to a windows computer and re-edit the boot.ini and the boot.ini.default, but this did not work out for me.
So what is the easiest way to repair my broken Ubuntu installation ?

Try this stock boot.ini file as it is.
https://github.com/mdrjr/c2_bootini/blo ... r/boot.ini

If it doesn't help, you need to reflash the OS image probably.

Eeeh, sorry.
I connected a serial debug cable to the Odroid C2 and now I got some info.
He boots the first 4.5 seconds normal, but then at the end he says "clear fb0 memory" and that is where he is stuck.
Do you have any additional idea of how to fix that, without reinstalling everything?
Here is the log (badly truncated, sorry) :

Did you replace the boo.ini file?
I couldn't find any clue in your boot log.
I hope other people can help you.

My result is that now the Odroid C2 does not boot anything anymore, despite the blue led keeps blinking. :(
Hi.
Do you have a HDMI monitor connected to C2?

Blinking blue led operation means C2 is still alive.
With the boot.ini option, you should have no booting log after this.

Code: Select all

## Loading init Ramdisk from Legacy Image at 13000000 ...
   Image Name: uInitrd
Image Type: AArch64 Linux RAMDisk Image (uncompressed)
   Data Size: 11645820 Bytes = 11.1 MiB
   Load Address: 00000000
   Entry Point: 00000000
   Verifying Checksum ... OK
load dtb from 0x1000000 ......
## Flattened Device Tree blob at 01000000
Booting using the fdt blob at 0x1000000
Loading Ramdisk to 7340a000, end 73f2537c ... OK
Loading Device Tree to 000000001fff5000, end 000000001ffff506 ... OK

Starting kernel ...

uboot time: 4590856 us
So please check display via HDMI monitor.
If you encountered frozen display, share the result and your boot.ini file fully.

Sorry, I also destroyed booting to graphical interface....
I thought it was a good idea to "apt-get remove plymouth" -> that updated my initrd.something ; now the booting will not boot a graphical interface anymore. :(
I had to reinstall a working backup copy
