You need to create the appropriate yaml file there. It defaults to dhcp with no config. Though if you are on a desktop image netplan uses NetworkManager

I created yaml file and wifi connection works ... only 10-15min.
After that I can't ping anything (iwconfig still show ESSID and ifconfig show the correct ip address) .
If I reboot it's works again.

Is there some power management that could stop the wifi dongle ?

Code: Select all
network:
    ethernets:
        eth0:
            addresses:
            - 192.168.1.120/24
            gateway4: 192.168.1.1
            nameservers:
                addresses: [8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4]
    wifis:
        wlan0:
            dhcp4: true
            access-points:
                "xxxx":
                    password: "xxxx"
    version: 2

If it's power-management you can try the following experiment: start a ping in a shell and leave it on. If the connection is stable for longer then it's a power management issue.

Just go with interface file enable ifupdown first

Somewhere under /etc/NetworkManager. But note that passwords are encrypted in the config files. You can manipulate network with nm-cli.
