PCM2900 bad recording

Unread postby Sebas_Ledesma » Tue Nov 14, 2017 9:34 pm

Hi:

Does anyone has experience with the PCM2900 usb card?
I can play without problems, but recording it's broked.
I've tested the same card on Windows and I can play and record without any problem.
On the same C2 I've tested a C-Media USB card and play and recording works fine, I can't use the C-Media as it only records in mono.

Thanks in advance,
Sebas

I've tested with Arecord and audacity. I've tried using alsa://pulse and alsa://hw1,0.
Even in the 'Sound Preferences' and in the 'Pulse Audio Volumen control' you can see that there is some 'weird-noise' even when there is no sound at input.

Here is a screenshot of what I'm getting when recording using 'USB Audio codec'.

We may need to purchase a sample to test it.
Where did you buy the PCM2900 USB sound card?

We made our own cards.
We have been using PCM2900 (and now PCM2902) at least the last ten years in our broadcast consoles,
ie:
http://www.solidynepro.com/indexahtmlp_D816ENG,t.htm
http://www.solidynepro.com/indexahtmlp_c2100ENG,t.htm
I just took a portable console from our stock, but I've tested the same hardware on Windows 10 x64 and Linux x64 and it worked as usual.
I will made a test using the a C1+, I suspect that there is some problem in the port to arm64.

Hi:

We did more test and we have this information.
Using: Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Linux Kernel: 3.14.79-116

The Odroid USB Audio adapter works fine for playback and recording: http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products ... 1629380416
We tested with another sound adapter based on C-Media chip and it also worked well (both record and play).
These adapters are mono, so we cannot use in our projects.

The PCM2900 usb sound card works well in playback.
The PCM2900 has problem while recording. We didnt found any configuration (alsa, pulse, audacity, arecord, etc) that allowed us to record sucesfully.
We even tested decoupling the power supply for the PCM29000 so it don't consume power from the C2 but nothing changed.
We only have success recording when we switched to use the USB-OTG connector. Using the *USB-OTG* connector we can record normally, but in our project we cannot use the OTG as we are using the touchscreen with the VU7 module.

Regards
Sebas

Thank you for sharing your test result.
I think you can plug the Vu7 cable to a normal USB host port.

Amlogic S805/S905 CPU USB driver has had the timing issue with an external hub controller.
It affected the data stream from USB audio or video devices probably.
But some people report their external USB hub had no such issue.
So please try a few different external USB hubs with your sound card and Vu7 display.

We found a *workaround* to use the PCM2900 in a standard USB port.
From the 'Sound Preferences' we configure the profile to Analog Mono Input (or Analog Stereo Output + Analog Mono Input).
In this case the recording works (obviously in mono).
The vumeter in the input tab no longer shows the noise and the Audacity can record without any problem.

Obviously this is not the solution that we can use.
There is any way to report the bug to AmLogic ?

Thanks in advance,
Sebastian

We already reported the USB related issue to Amlogic last year.
But there was no solution.
