Custom kernel from kernel.org how to

Unread post by J4rl » Tue Jan 29, 2019 3:25 am

Hello,

It is possible to take sources from kernel.org ex. 4.19.16, take config from working 3.8.13.7 kernel and simply compile it at odroid (without cross compile) and turn it on to live?

Question is mayby foolish, but after compile the kernel I can't use it. I tried to put zImage, initrd and created uInitrd to /boot but it didn't start.

Can anybody help me what I should do extra to bring my kernel to live? I don't care about xorg.

System debian stable, odroid u2 with eMMC.

Thank you.

Thanks for replay :)

Sorry for delay from my side but there is no much time for little computers in my world ;)

As I understand, I should:
  1. pull source from https://github.com/tobiasjakobi/linux-odroid-public
  2. put my config there
  3. make defoldconfig
  4. "make it burn"
  5. Then create zImage uInitrd from command line
  6. put them to /boot
  7. reboot
And it should work? Sorry for this mayby dumb questions, but I have some servers on my odroid and I want to preper to this as well as possible to spend no much time to do this.

Any help for noobie will be great :)
