oCam has alternatives?

Unread postby matteoraggi » Sat Aug 19, 2017 9:13 pm

I am courious to know if it is possible to mount better webcams on the odroid c2 or not od a oCam, here and here also my doubts about it:
Why make the oCam to be usb 3 if there are many other webcams around the world with usb 2.0 with many more mpixels?
Why make a usb3 webcam cost 96usd... it is not too much?

It is impossible to send 1280x720 raw image data at 30fps with USB 2.0.

Try this cheap USB 2.0 webcam if your don't care the video frame rate / optical quality.

Anyway, if use C2 board, oCam's USB 3.0 feature is useless. C2 has no USB 3.0 port.
oCam was developed for XU4 and other USB 3.0 capable computers.

We recommend to check if the camera has UVC compatibility, or at least V4L compatibility, to be utilizable on ODROID boards.

IMHO regarding to webcams all resolutions over full hd (2 Mpixels) are useless, due to a lens performance.
Only a very high quality and expensive lenses are really utilizing over 2 MP resolution.
Moreover for outdoor 24h applications we don't really need something over 1280x960 resolutions.
Otherwise you will have too small pixels which sensitivity during night-time is poor.
