oCam and OpenCV python

Unread postby fnoop » Sun Jan 08, 2017 9:51 am

Hi, i can successfully use opencv videocapture in c++, but doing the same thing in python just gives a black image. Reading up on things it looks like opencv is struggling to control the camera to return a recognised format. Anyone have any success using opencv python?

I would be interested in a response to this question ...
I need a global shutter camera for a large python project, but I presume that the lack of any answer to this question means the oCam-1MGN-U does NOT work with python openCV.

Perhaps Hardkernel or Withrobot can confirm this ????

We have no experience of Python OpenCV.
Let's wait for Withrobot's response.

We hope this sample code written in Python helps you to work with our oCam cameras.
This code is a viewer program and includes OpenCV.

Thanks to both Odroid & Withrobot for the prompt responses.
I now feel confident to order the camera and give it a trial.

Dear WITHROBOT and hardkernel technical support,
I am using oCam-1-CGN-U with odroid U3. However with both oCam viewer (Linux) and the sample python code, the moment I start the codes the entire display goes black and odroid hangs (and the only option left is to unplug it and plug it back). With the Preliminary ROS package given on withrobot site, the behaviour is unpredictable, and one of the following happens randomly
1) Camera isnt found (Because "Success, camera found message isnt displayed)
2) Camera is found but nothing is published
3) Some frames are published initially (for a few seconds) but then the camera just hangs and no more frames are published.

Till now the basic opencv example code seems to be working the best on U3.

Can you please provide some clarity as to what could be the reason since all of these codes are working fine on Xu4 as well as my laptop. Do these packages have some minimum version requirements of any particular libraries or are there an obvious compatibility issues between odroid U3 and oCam-1-CGN-U (that I am missing)?

Thanks
Alvika

As the developer of oCam-1CGN-U camera, we would like to notify you that we don't support ODROID-U3 as it is a discontinued product.
Likewise, the codes that you mentioned were not tested on ODROID-U3.
