oCAM 5Mpx and android?

Unread postby mekong89 » Thu Apr 06, 2017 1:59 pm

Hi WithRobot,

As far as I know, oCAM 5Mpx is UVC compliant and Android support UVC very well. But on the sell page, you state that android does not support. Is there any way work around this? What is the root cause of this problem? We would like to using oCAM 5Mpx on our Android product.

Preview function might work with ODROID-XU4 USB 3.0 interface.
But video recording and video conferencing app might not work due to some missing V4L2 APIs.
Which ODROID board and which OS image do you use?

C2 doesn't have the USB 3.0 port.
So the 1080p input should be extremely slow something like 4~5FPS even we enable the device driver.

I dont expect 1080p, slower resolution is ok. I test with ubuntu mate is good. But, as you mention, android not good, can not record or capture, just preview. Android is UVC compliant, but dont know why it does not work as good as ubuntu.

There is no proper video recording/capture media framework in Android.
The UVC driver just handles image preview.

Hi,

So, if I would like to do only an image in 5 MPx, is it possible ? Of course, on Android OS.

We've tested oCam 5MP camera on Android C2 and XU4.
Both of them don't work.
There are tons of issues on Kernel drivers as well as Android camera framework with 5MP UVC input.
We can't fix them.

We can say only some 720p webcams are working with our Android platforms.

Hi WithRobot,

This might be slightly off-topic here but I quickly wanted to check if the oCam-1MGN-U or the oCam-1CGN-U can connect to an Odroid XU4 running Android given that the cameras are UVC compliant and the similar kernel etc. We have been able to connect other UVC webcams easily.

From reading this post it seems that the cameras can only be run in preview mode due to some library issues but that is fine for my requirement. Basically, I am trying to use the oCAM with ODROID XU4 to run a machine learning MobileNets classifier in Android. My use case mainly requires a preview only. When I tested with a standard USB 3.0 webcam things seemed to work fine but I wanted to try this with a global shutter camera. 720p is fine.

As the manufacturer of the oCam-1MGN-U and the oCam-1CGN-U, we would like to remind you that officially we don't support XU4 running Android.
For your information, though, we suppose the cameras will be recognized by the XU4 running Android.
However, there will be a problem in dealing with the video data as both of the cameras send out the image in BayerRGB format which requires its own handling process.
