hifi shield and hdmi on openelec 6.0

Unread post by cagney » Sun Apr 03, 2016 8:50 am

The attached file, on the odroid-c1+ version of openelec 6.0, seems to let me either:
- watch videos (stereo sound only) on the tv with kodi (the stereo is off)
or
- select and listen to music being played by kodi on the stereo (without having to turn the TV on)
without having to mess around with configuration files or settings.

To get it working, save the file as "asound.conf" and then copy it to the /storage/.config directory.

Some notes:
- this is a greatly simplified version of what can be found with searching, and is just enough for my needs, and something I can almost understand :-)
- as the documentation for ALSA points out, the two streams will get out-of-sync so don't try to listen to both simultaneously
- this file seems to cause openelec 6.9x to hang :-(

It's still early days so take care :-)

Thank you for sharing a very practical configuration file for my music listening life with OpenElec. :)
