So i try Volumio 2 2.129 image on my Odroid 2 + lcd 3.5

1. problem : Chromium start under root ... fix: change user in /lib/systemd/system/volumio-kiosk.service
2. problem : No touch input (sx865x loaded but not used ...) fix: idk :)

Good to know the latest Volumio Ver 2.129 is still compatible with ODROID displays. :)

Do you mean you fixed the touch input issue? I don't understand "idk".

Yop, kiosk working :) only touch input doest work. idk = i dont know.

Now i have idea replace volumio 2 with Debian, setup Kodi with kiosk and touch lcd, ir remote, webinterface. We will see

Also i have problems with samba on Volumio. Permission problems with mpd etc. Volumio looks like pretty mess now :)

I am having some trouble with this. I am able to get picture on the 3.5" screen, but, I cannot get the touchscreen to work. I have tried a fresh install multiple times with the same result.

They just recently updated the version of volumio for the c1 and c2 on their download page from version 2.166 to version 2.344.

Trying the newer version may help some people with the problems they have been having with volumio.

I have already updated to 2.344 and the issue still persists. The touchscreen wouldn't work for me on the previous version as well.

Touchscreen device driver sx865x was loaded well.
But there is no I2C driveraml_i2c.
You might not add "aml_i2c" in "/etc/modules" file.

It looks like aml_i2c won't load at startup. Here is a copy of my modules file as you can see aml_i2c is in there.

The loading sequence does matter.
sx865x must be loaded after aml_i2c.
You might need to check "dmesg" output to find why aml_i2c didn't load first.

I have no idea why the touchscreen driver node doesn't exist as "input5" at this moment.
I'll install the latest Volumio image on my C2 and check what's wrong early next week since I'm having a biz trip now.
I hope other users can help you if possible.

Awesome! Thanks for looking into it.

I tried the Ubuntu image last week. The picture and touch work great, but Ubuntu isn't very user friendly on such a small screen.

I've flashed "volumio-2.344-2017-12-16-odroidc2.img" and could reproduce the touchscreen driver issue.
I'll look into the issue more carefully.

BTW, which sound card do you use? HiFi Shield?
I think HiFi Shield 2 driver (snd-soc-pcm512x-i2c.ko) seems to break the touchscreen driver registration.
But I can't find which configuration file loads "snd-soc-pcm512x*.ko files.

Update: If I plug the HiFi Shield 2, the touchscreen works.
We need to find how to avoid loading HiFi shield-2 drivers. :(
When the system starts, OS tries to load HiFi shield-2 drivers.
If it doesn't exist, it unloads the drivers including aml_i2c driver together and breaks the touchscreen driver initialization.

Please send a PM to "gkkpch" who is a key developer of Volumio.
He will help us to find which files we need to edit.

I have been using a FiiO Q1 USB dac, so it makes sense why I'm having these issues.

In two weeks I should be back "in business", then change the code then and see if we can do an extra release for C1/C2.

quick question
do i get it right, that the 3,5" display is working with volumio current version 2.344 for the C2 out fo the box ?
Or the the file edting from OP still needed ?

Hi. Maybe somebody can give me a clue.
I did everything literally as it is in the post and still cannot make the 3.5LCD working.
I have C2 / HIFI Shield2 / 3.5LCD hat (branded Hardkernel)

I started with fresh image of Volumio 2.344 - nothing modified, just followed steps from post.
The only think I achieve is screen switched on but no graphic nor text on it.
What should I check? Don't need touch but need to have Volumio GUI on 3.5 LCD hat.

2.344 is not the latest release of Volumio for the C2.

Volumio no longer provides updated releases for the C2 on their download page.
Up to date images are only available from their forum.

Don't know if it will help but give the 2.459 release here a try.

No. No working, just blank white screen. Will install on Ubuntu from Odroid 3.5 official manual to check if hardware is OK.

I've got the same hardware here, and I remember having a bit of an issue when I first tried it with volumio, but I did ultimately get it working.

I don't know where my 3.5 inch LCD is at the moment but once I find it if you are still having problems I will see what I can do about helping you get yours up and running.

Did exactly every step from tutorial: https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/displ ... lcd_shield
Mission failed, but no errors, accepted every command. Just managed to switch on backlight leds ;(
Could be hardware fault? It is brand new unit out-of-the box. Is it any way to check HW?
I wonder if exists kind of test Ubuntu image with everything already prepared?

Found it.

So the instructions need a tweak, due to a bug in the volumio touch screen plugin installer.

So before starting the normal instructions ssh into the C2 and do the following.
Code: Select all
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install keyboard-configuration

This prevents the touch screen plugin installer from getting hung up waiting for user input that it can't get while installing the packages that the plugin requires. It will ask you about your keyboard just answer 1, since it doesn't matter since we are not using a keyboard.

Then follow the instructions here https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=118&t=24651 as before making sure that you follow the parts for the C2 and the 3.5 inch display

Thank You, but my mistake, I didn't mention that already delt with no keyboard-configuration problem beforehand. During plugin installation I found it stopped on user interaction, so used new image, did steps You mentioned ("apt install keyb...") and that install plugin properly. I'm pretty sure did everything possible according to manual and posts. All these my unsuccessful struggling led me into conclusion my example is exactly the same like this: viewtopic.php?f=145&t=30350
So asked supplier to replace the unit. Will inform about progress as soon as received new one.
