Since we could not reproduce the issue with Ralink nor Broadcom Gbit switches, we've just ordered Realtek one.
It may take 4~5 days to receive it.

BTW, what is the chipset in the very old Netgear GS608 v1?

Adding Atheros chipset GBit switch, not able to reproduce the same issue.

mine is the earlier v1 looking up the chipset of mine now..

also what switch did you order i advise Zyxel GS1900-8
its the 8 port version of mine and runs on the same firmware

I've tested to play a video stream with Kodi on 1Gbps switching hub which is based on RTL8197D chipset. But I couldn't find the same phenomenon on my test, playing big_buck_bunny_1080p_h264.mov and other movie for over 1 hour on Android v1.5 and Kodi 14.0. I've tested with other AP chipset I have, Atheros and Broadcom, but still the issue was not observed on my end. I doubt if Kodi version makes the issue.
Here is the video clip captured on my test.

Obviously, big_buck_bunny_1080p_h264.mov is small and as I mentioned I have tested with other file 4GB as well for couple of hours. But not delay happened on me, I don't have 10-40GB single file. Couple of few GB video files were played without a problem on my end.

Hi,

I just wanted to mention, that G-LAN is working over here in the following setup:
  • - Odroid-C1
    - 1,5m CAT-5 network cable
    - TP-Link TL-SG1008D switch
    - 15m CAT5 network cable
    - AVM Fritzbox 7362 SL
Just for those with a similar setup.

Greetings

your either using a revision newer than 5.1 that doesnt use a realtek chipset
or your using low to medium bitrate files

e.g. not 20mbit + type files

im having this same problem, if i connect to gigabit network only the amber light is on, green is off and dl speeds are ~5 mbps, if i take it upstairs to my sons room i get ~45mbps. This is all on a 75mbps connection which i can max out with various other devices connected to my asus RT-N66u dark knight router. ive tried fresh installs of android 1.6.1 and ubuntu 1.4.1 any ideas on when this might be fixed?

Could you test with other device like laptop or desktop while connected directly, and check the throughput. If amber light is on, 1Gbps port is connected.

It's weird, if it does have same bandwidth issue in your son's room...I would doubt H/W issue. But it's not... :(
Have you check if 1Gbps is connected from Ubuntu with mii tools? And cable replacement? :) Or ... uncomfortable connection with your router? Would check what's the chipset of your router. :(

You can install the tool from Ubuntu, please refer the links and check if your ODROID-C1 is connected as 1Gbps.

I have installed android on my odroid, but i am also experiencing ethernet issues. Sometimes it connects and reconnects continuously, then i reboot and it works fine.
Other problem is what is listed above. I am getting internet speeds of 10mbps... With that i can't stream any movie or trailer...
The fix listed for this problem is only for ubuntu i suppose (mii tools). What can i do on android to still get internet speeds above 50mbps or higher?
