jbd2_log_wait_commit / task blocked

Unread post by alpe » Fri Aug 31, 2018 5:34 am

My C1 is crashing all the time when I'm making heavy writes via samba and deluged is open (possibly other programs would cause this too).

I'm getting a lot of:

Code: Select all

[aml_sdhc_data_thread] SDHC_ESTA=0x0
Not unusual:

Code: Select all

INFO: task deluged:1437 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
and

Code: Select all

deluged D c0681300 0 1437 1 0x00000000
[<c0681300>] (__schedule+0x5c4/0x710) from [<c01966c4>]
[<c01966c4>] (jbd2_log_wait_commit+0xd0/0x114) from [<c01554b8>]
Some logs:
log.zip
7 log files inside
(20.64 KiB) Downloaded 21 times
Once it was different:
log8.txt
(77.89 KiB) Downloaded 59 times
But maybe this time it was caused by some cable problem I possibly caused while trying to fix it.

The hdd that was first on the C1 was very old, and from time to time it corrupted some things. So, when the problem started I bought a new 2tb driver for my pc and moved the used 2tb drive from my pc to the C1.
The problem persisted, and since this hdd had some "Current pending sectors" I RMA'd it. New drive come back, and I started copying a lot of things to it. That's when the issue became more latent. If I don't do anything else (just copying files) it's ok, usually. But if I'm copying files via samba, and Deluged is running (even if it's a clean install with nothing on it) the system WILL crash in usually under 5 minutes.

A few things I tried:
- Tested the new hdd and checked SMART to see if everything was ok.
- Formated it with lazy_itable_init=0 and lazy_journal_init=0.
- Changed the SATA cable.
- Changed the USB->SATA bridge.
- Plugged the bridge via the USB OTG port.
- Feeding slightly higher/lower voltage to the C1.
- Monitored the voltage (both 12v and 5v), to see if any change ocurred.
- Make a clean install of Deluge with no torrents added to it too.
- Changed to Deluge 2.0 and back again to 1.3.15.
- Updated samba to the version available on the devel branch.
- Disabled zram, because of the last log.
- Disabled UHS-1.
- Unplugged all usb devices, leaving only the main HDD. Usually there is also 2 pen drives and 1 extra hdd plugged.

I'm sure I did more, but that's all I remember now.
Despite it only ocurring when Deluged is running, I'm not sure he is to be blamed because it worked fine and I tried a clean install.

The system is powered by a 12v 8.5a psu that directly power the hdd and an Step-Down 5a Adjustable Voltage circuit for 5v output.
Using the latest ubuntu minimal release for the C1 (18.04).

Replugged all usb since it didn't make a difference.

Code: Select all

Try sysbench and see if you can get a crash.

I think I found out what was(?) causing the issue.
During some testings some time ago I changed the defaults of mkfs to enable metadata_csum and forgot to remove it.
Going to test now, and update here later.

Edit: Yes, this was the problem. Stupid me. Thanks. ;)

Same problem again.
This time tranfering a much bigger file.
Already tried changing IO scheduler and tweaking it.
Also tried some changes on vm.dirty_background_ratio and vm.dirty_ratio.

Tried. Same. :/
I ordered a new SD card from aliexpress. Will test with it when it arrives. But I doubt this is the problem.

PS: The transfer in question is being made to an HDD via usb, not to the sdcard.
