Can someone please share how-to make hifi shield works with Openelec step by step?

I did try follow some guides found in this thread but no success. Or should I just wait for the next build that supposed to support hifi shield out of the box? (Will it release soon?)

Now that LibreELEC v7.0.0 is released I'm really interested if there's a chance to get it for our C1s.

Hi,
I'm quite happy with my testings of the C1+
Now I'd like to "tweak" it, as I achieved with my RPI2

My questions:
  • Tweaks for a 24/7 running and stability: on-demand governor, GPU mode, ...
  • Is it possible to suspend/wake or powerdown/up C1+ using CEC or MCE remote ?
  • or start/stop kodi using irexec for example, to minimize idle consumption
  • How to disable CEC? (my sony TV sometimes works, sometimes don't)
  • Is there a "HifiBerry Digi+" like board for odroid? (kodi sounds output via HDMI, MPD using the hifiberry coaxial)
Thanks for the work.
Hope there will be a libreELEC for C1(+)

Hi frengo, maybe the C1 kernel (3.10.y) is too old to recognize your Rii keyboard.
You can try to see whats happening when you plug in the USB dongle, with 'dmesg' or 'journalctl -f' (in putty)

@wrxtacy:
I would like to ask you if you would please make a LibreELEC release equal to the C2 release with libcec and the DVD playback tweaks for the C1(+). I really love how smooth it's running on my C2 and it would be so cool if I could use my C1 in my bedroom with good working cec.

A new release would be awesome :)

Does anybody experience some microstutter when watching x264 videos? It doesn't happen with every file, but when it does happen it happens when a scene changes.It almost feels like there is some 'ramping up' thing that causes this.

Is this project is ended, since C2 has arrived?
In last edition, the CEC is not working properly, but that does not matter.
Everyone buy a new C2.
Thank You Hardkernel.

I bought a C1+ because someone told me that Kodi Release for C2 will not very stable compare to C1+
I haved the choice to buy a C1+ or waiting for C2 and I choose C1+
But, I have to admit, all of the effort go to C2 and C1+ is forgotten

So sad... :(

Indeed! I asked WRXTASY some time ago if he would make a LibreELEC image for the C1(+). He replied that he would but nothing happened since (although that was just 9 days ago). I asked twice after that after that but these "cries" where ignored. I understand that he, and the other developers are very busy and the C2 is a new and interesting project. Yet it would be nice if he would make some time for the C1.

I wonder if it would be possible to use one source to easily compile builds for both platforms.

The advances made for the C2 are huge! Some of which I hope one day will come to the C1(+).

DVD (VOB) playback doesn't stutter anymore and is perfectly deinterlaced and the libcec implementation is also much better now, more like how it works on Raspberry Pi!

I don't think WRXTASY is monitoring this thread anymore but I hope the C1 will not be forgotten.

Me too. I bought C1+ only because there was OpenELEC with backported kernel supporting my DVB-T2 stick.

I hope there will be a continuation of this project. At least to the final OE7.

There is a S805 section on the libreelec forum. For the moment only for the KSZAQ builds. Maybe with a little tweaking it can work on the odroid C1.
I don't know if KSZAQ uses the same kernel tree as WRXTASY, but maybe both trees can be merged.
KSZAQ uses libCEC for CEC stuff and his source is on github, I don't know about the one of WRXTASY.
As I understood from the fork to libreelec is that one of their goals was to join all the fragmented builds of openelec under one new roof.

Thank you very much, Wakko.
I'll make as you told me entering those codes with putty to make work my wi-fi Rii keyboard.

I'm also concerned about the C2 output as I saw on the site that Hardkernel some time C1 + not longer available or supplied. What does this mean ? We'll have to start all over again? The 6.95 OpenELEC that went on C1 + no longer works on c2?

Also What LibreElec? The OpenELEC succession ? What we need to do to buy a ODROID C2? Install LibreElec? And LibreElec works fine on Odroid C2 ? Okay as OpenELEC?

Whenever there's always something to change? There never something that will last a little of time ??? Sigh !!!

The hevc playback is pretty impressive on this little board.

But unfortunally, I can't play mpeg2/vob files without a lot of lages and drop/missed frames.
I tried to overclock and force cpu governor to performance, without success.
I ripped all my old DVD collection in mkv containing uncompressed video (so mpeg2 .vob I guess).
Maybe it woule be better with plain .vob files?

Apologies to everyone, but I've been a bit of a busy fella. Testing and patching and fixing Kodi as you likely know for the S905 C2 and other AML platforms. Also switched camps to the very supportive and jovial LibreELEC guys.

I have ported the C1 over to the LibreELEC build system yesterday but U-boot is doing something strange and the C1 will not boot. I need time for the u-boot linux LE gurus to have a look at it.

So I will tidy up OpenELEC now that 7.0.0 and Kodi 16.1 final is out and push out an up to date release soonish until LE is sorted out.
What I need people to do please is list very briefly what is not working reliably for Audio and Video only, I will start the list:

- Interlaced mpeg2 DVD plays back with stutters.
- A random rare video stutter when playing back 23.976fps movies sometimes.

I have a bunch of Kodi patches from the C2 that will likely improve A/V for the C1.

Be aware I Do Not want to know about problems at this stage regarding attached usb dongles, DAC's, DVB's or the HiFi Shield.
I actually removed all HardKernel support for the HiFi Shield and USB->>>SPDIF adapter in the C2's Firmware to get HD Audio semi working properly without dropouts. This is very likely to happen as the very first step to fixing any C1 Audio dropout problems as well.

Dear wrxtasy,

Thank you very much for the update. My C1 works rather well except for DVD playback and libcec. Hope the guru's will be able to fix the uboot problem.

great man!
Thank you very much for your effort!

I'm using your latest release and I'm facing random freezes and instabilities: the reproduction stops freezing on a frame but continuing the audio track; the usb WIFI dongle led stops blinking.
It looks like a system freeze causes the stop of wireless buffering, and then it continues only with the buffer. At that point the system is completely unresponsiveness and I must brutally unplug the power supply.
This happened watching H264 videos. Previous version used (might be "Kodi's Awesome" vers.) didn't suffer it.
The board is in a box well ventilated (but without fans) and using a raspberry Pi aluminium heatsink kit (1 on SoC and 1 on each RAM chip).

Really love your work!

Actually on my OE 6.95.9.2, I've got the video shutter thing and some sparkling with my Hyperion system at my top-right corner (Don't know if is my Hyperion version or AML Driver) :)

Can't wait to migrate to LE ^_^

Thanks for sticking with us wrxtasy - fabulous news that you are switching to LE on the C1+ and we look forward to seeing that soon.
Next one will definitely be a C2 but hoping to extend the life of the C1 for a while yet.
We greatly appreciate your efforts in making the Odroid platforms a viable choice for Kodi.

My time away working on the C2 has definitely been beneficial to bring back a bunch of benefits to the C1.
I'm pretty happy with this release.
Honestly OpenELEC on the C1 is very nearly as fast as the C2. It even surprised me once again. :)

Without further waiting:
OpenELEC-Odroid-C1-7.0.0-Kodi.Jarvis.16.1.Final.tar HERE

TIPS: (BTW the SSH password has changed to ol as I'm sick of typing openelec)
My advancedsettings.xml file. I'm using a minimal buffer for speed over a Ethernet connection and some PVR cache tweaks:

Code: Select all

<advancedsettings>

  <network>
    <buffermode>1</buffermode>
    <cachemembuffersize>20971520</cachemembuffersize>
    <readbufferfactor>8</readbufferfactor>
  </network>

  <pvr>
    <minvideocachelevel>8</minvideocachelevel>
    <minaudiocachelevel>20</minaudiocachelevel>
  </pvr>

  <gui>
    <algorithmdirtyregions>1</algorithmdirtyregions>
    <nofliptimeout>2</nofliptimeout>
  </gui>

</advancedsettings>
I'm also using a slight Overclock: (any Higher scaling freq and the C1+ was unstable)

Code: Select all

nano .config/autostart.sh

echo 1632000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
echo performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor

CTRL-X to exit
chmod +x .config/autostart.sh
reboot
Enjoy W. :D

Thanks for the 'OpenELEC 7.0.0 - Kodi Jarvis 16.1 Final' update @wrxtasy
Just a quick heads-up that in post 1 you noted it as April 20 release rather than May 20 :D

I've already applied the patch - late here, looking forward to testing it in the am

@wrxtasy,

do You have a github page for the sources of your builds? Probably your patches can be used on other AML S805 & AML S812 boxes also.

thank you very much for the new build!
I found what is causing the freezes...the wireless dongle! :oops:
unplugging it and replugging it, works good.
I must find a working one...my TL-WN821N gets really really HOT when in use.
Previously I was using a CSL nano-dongle compatible with the android image but it is only 150N instead of 300N (of the TL-WN821N).

I'm using a 40 cm Y-cable to put the dongle in-sight to the access-point, but maybe there is voltage loss on it...should I use an external power supply?
right now I use the original hardkernel 2A power supply for: Odroid C1 + mouse radio dongle + Y-cable for wifi (both connectors plugged).

Now my C1 will have Kodi 16.1 like my C2, both running your works :)

Question. Do you plan to move to C1 builds to LibreElec too ? :)

espn3 addon not working on OpenELEC 7.0.0

Unread post by kvetter » Mon May 23, 2016 9:18 am

Went to check out some games on espn3 and the video wouldn’t load. I would get the check LOG for errors message. I was not sure if it was ver 7.0 or the new modem from TWC(suppose to be faster). played with the files installing & uninstalling the add-on and nothing changed. Then I remembered having openELEC on a micro SD. Took out the eMMC with openELEC Kodi 7.0.0 and inserted the micro SD with openELEC Kodi 6.95.9 and ESPN3 WORKS ;-)

WORKS

Running on OpenELEC (WRXTASY) - Version: 7.0.0, kernel: Linux ARM 32-bit version 3.10.100
kodi.ver6.95.9.log.espn3.NO-error.052216.txt
working log file
(39.86 KiB) Downloaded 109 times
kodi.log.espn3.error.052216.02.txt
error running ver 7.0
(17.01 KiB) Downloaded 97 times
NOTE: ESPN3 would load & list all the options and only failed whenever a feed/video was selected to play.
NOTE: ver 7.0 was acquired by running OpenELEC-Odroid.arm-7.0.0.tar in the .update folder and booting
Hope this is useable information.
We basically run SALT & ESPN3 through the C1+ to our TV.
Suggestions to getting espn3 to work with Ver 7.0 will be appreciated.
Have a great day.

I'm missing Estuary theme. Am I supposed to install it manually in OE7 ?

I have some dvd's tv episodes ripped straight to mkv (makemkv) 25fps

with hardware acceleration the video glitches (stutters) been doing it for a while still doing it in the 20th build
though if i set accelerate only over 720p mpeg2 its ok (audio was out of sync in the last build in software mode so wasnt really usable but its fine on the 20th build)

if you want a sample 2min file just let me know

@kvetter,
Thanks for the proper Logs, unfortunately this looks like a Kodi Addon and Kodi Jarvis Final compatibility problem. I will look as the SSL security updates just incase there has been a change. No Addon expert here but I would say the AddOn author needs to update the Addon for Kodi Final, this is the important warning:
WARNING: CreateLoader - unsupported protocol(plugin) in plugin://plugin.video.espn_3
Suggestion: Have you forced an Addons Update in Addons > My Addons > Pull Left > Check for updates ?
Otherwise download the latest ESPN3 Master Addon, add to one of your Movie folders and then Install from Zip in the Addons section.
https://github.com/awaters1/plugin.vide ... master.zip
=================================================

- LibreELEC is being worked on at the moment for the C1 when I get spare time.

- No Estuary Skin for Kodi Jarvis, that comes with Kodi Krypton !

- CEC is being looked at. I see a loss of CEC control sometimes as well.

@Shonk,
Remind me again what is wrong with 720p with your friend pls ?

That Video accel. setting I put in was for that exact case of Interlaced DVD ripped to mpeg2 .mkv's. Yes you have the correct setting for mpeg2 .mkv DVD playback - 720p and above. :D
I might look at automating mpeg2 .mkv's for auto Software decoding as well.
Currently DVD Rips that have mpeg2 files named with .vob will Autoswitch to Software decoding. These are straight DVD 1:1 ISO Rips.

@pawnthep,
I am looking at the HiFi Shield code and configs that are in an updated Kernel. I will try to put out a test version when time permits.

Checked out http://forum.kodi.tv and got the idea that the "master.zip" you referred me to is being updated regularly and is actually newer than what is installed via the repositories.

I downloaded the master.zip you linked to. Uninstalled the repo version and installed from .zip. I was greeted with the splash screen to verify I had an account with TWC and did so. Most video files would not play. However, there were a few (uninteresting) video files that would play.

The log file is really big and is at http://xbmclogs.com/pk2dfiq5t .

SOLVED::: Over at http://forum.kodi.tv/ They said (ESPN3 addon implied)
OpenELEC has some issues with SSL Certs as mentioned by http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2335998
URLError: <urlopen error [SSL: CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED] certificate verify failed (_ssl.c:590)>

There is an advanced option to ignore SSL certificates but I haven't tested it
Went to Configure>Settings ESPN3>Advanced tab> Disable SSL Certificate checks (unsafe) & highlighted the radio button . . . I am now streaming past streams from ESPN3. For a stream that is not to start for another 15 minutes I get the splash screen ESPN your event is about to begin please stand by. ALL seems to be good.

Just a quick look, for those of us, who just stream ESPN3, the old "legacy" menu seems to be more useful.
Hope this helps anyone else updating to OpenELEC v7.0 & want to use ESPN3

Hi,

This version and all above 6.95.5 give me a bkack screen when i watch video in 1080p. My tv is 720p and OE switch in 1080p (amlogic driver) switch in 1080p when video begins. Is it possible to fix it??

Regards,

EDIT :01/06

I solved my problem. It was a default option wich is disabled in old version : the video sync at start/stop video.. wich is not supported by my old tv.

C1 was upgraded to latest OE 7.0.0 and works flawlessly.

CEC works fine on my C2 powered by LE 7.0.1 (attached to Sony TV) but I didn't see it in OE 7.0 on my C1 (attached to LG TV), ie Kodi UI (input peripheral is grayed)

Hi all,

I know this might sound like a broken record, but did anyone achieved to get C1+ with HIFI shield to be operational with the latest 7.0.0 build?
It's perfectly fine with build 6.95.1 but with the same asound.conf file 7.0.0 does not work.
So obviously I've checked aplay -l and cat /proc/asound/cards and both list DAC as a valid sound card but setting default.pcm "hw:1,0" does not enable sound in KODI... so my thoughts are that there is something wrong in KODI itself.
How do we set audio outputs in KODI gui? Because there is a dropdown menu in settings so KODI must know which sound cards are available just need to find this list and alter it right?

Any help appreciated... :)

BTW. I can imagine that C2 will have similar issue as you still can have HIFI shield connected.

- I will be brief. No update HDMI-CEC or Libcec patches have gone into OE 7.0.0. There were a bunch of problem that showed up, it is still the standard AML CEC.

- The C1's Kernel changed somewhere around OE 6.95.1 which changed the asound.conf. I'm really not sure what it should be now but there is this thread for reference:
http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=17376

- The HiFi Shield and HK USB-SPDIF modded code has been pulled out of the C2's Kernel for LibreELEC as passthrough was not working properly. I tested it again yesterday and sure enough HiFi Shield code equals no AC3/DD passthrough. PCM 2.0 only. :(

Sounds like the LG CEC patches got forgotten again maybe?
I will upgrade and see.
Not working here either.
wrxtasy wrote:Ok with that being the case, I've double checked the Kernel commits and Yep sure enough one was missing.
That happened during merging with new Kernel work recently done to fix the R/W MMC issues some were experiencing.
This was the finding last time maybe wrxtasy can look again.

This is a great release; it finally resolved the microstutter issue I had.

I also put in the max performance setting and removed the C1+ from its case. The temperature has dropped from 70+ C to 50-55 C.

It feels a lot smoother now using the Aon Madnox skin.

Wrxtasy, thank You for a great job!
Is it possible to download sources for this image somewhere? I'm using my C1 as mediaplayer for analog CRT TV, so i need to recompile sources to add 576cvbs video output support.

HDMI-CEC is not working on my LG TV.
After replugging HDMI Cable, works for 60 seconds then disappear.
HDMI-CEC was working perfect on the RC4 previously

v7.0.0 is really great, near perfect!
Thanks for this amazing work.

I only have two remaining bugs:
  • Some TV channels (1080 mpeg4) are displayed in anamorphic letterbox. Others channels are ok.
  • When changing channels, sometimes there is a buffer refreshing loop. (i don't have apply your advancedsettings.xml yet, so maybe it can't help here)

Mika91, pour les chaines tu peux modifier l'affichage en appuyant sur ok et dans les paramètres video. Normalement cela corrige ton problème et sauvegarde la modification.
