Hi,

First, i want to say "great job !", thanks @wrxtasy

I used to play openelec on raspberry : now i'm trying your last openelec distrib on my new odroid c1+ : i have some questions :
1) cec works fine on my Samsung Tv but it doesn't work on my LG Tv :( is there something specific to do ?
2) on raspberry, we have some options like hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1 : is it possible with your odroid version ? there is no cec peripheric options on the gui ?
3) what about nfs option on the boot.ini ? is it working ? i'm trying to boot with /storage on nfs but i don't succeed ?

Thanks

Cheers mate :)

1) LG CEC Simplink has been confirmed working with this latest .tar update:
https://mega.nz/#!311WBSha!xL7jAQkeNhwV ... qTP09lBzaI

2) HDMI CEC control can be switched On/Off by configuring the boot.ini file by commenting - # or removing the # from:
setenv hdmi_cec "hdmitx=cecf"

The Open Source Pulse8 libCEC library that the RPi uses for the Perhipherals option in Kodi is missing due to incompatibilities on most AMLogic platforms. Having said that the OpenELEC developer gda has rewritten this libCEC library so that it now works properly on WeTek Hardware platforms and works well indeed !
This adds a LOT of CEC functionality compared to the standard AML CEC implementation.

Kernel patches are needed as well and that is where the C1 runs into problems, simply put HardKernel have not kept up to date with AML updates for HDMI and as such these Kernel patches would need a bunch of work or would not work at all.

3) There is no NFS boot option with OE on the C1. I've never seen anyone use it or I'm unaware of it.

It wouldn't be OE specific, as long as uboot supports it I believe it would work.

Thanks for your answers !

1) LG Tv no CEC : I tried your OpenELEC-Odroid-C1-6.95.9.RC4 SD card image : i will try OpenELEC-Odroid.C1-6.95.9.LG.Simplink.Kodi.Jarvis.Final.tar : is there any difference ?
I will try to give you extra debug information if it doesn't work with my Tv.
I confirm, setenv hdmi_cec "hdmitx=cecf" was uncommented in my boot.ini at my first test .. "to be continued..."

2) Ok, I understand : odroid is not using the same cec library ... so thoses options don't exist yet :(
I was interesting by not switching tv on odroid boot (something like hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1)
I will try this solution :

>>If you do not want to power on automatically on TV by HDMI-CEC, please change hdmitx kernel parameter in boot.ini file.
>>
>>Before:
>>CODE: SELECT ALL
>>if test "${cec}" = "1"; then setenv hdmi_cec "hdmitx=cecf"; fi
>>
>>After:
>>CODE: SELECT ALL
>>if test "${cec}" = "1"; then setenv hdmi_cec "hdmitx=cec7"; fi
>>
>>The fourth bit in 'hdmitx=cecX' means AUTO_POWER_ON_MASK. So, if you clear fourth bit then TV do not power on automatically on the bootup time.

3) My question was not very clear : I don't want to boot on pxe/tftp/nfs.
The normal boot sequence is : poweron => bootloader/boot.ini => kernel => squashfs + /storage on sd card
boot.ini look like : setenv bootrootfs "boot=LABEL=System disk=LABEL=Storage ro"

I want to try this :
poweron => bootloader/boot.ini => kernel => squashfs + /storage on nfs share
boot.ini should look like : setenv bootrootfs "boot=LABEL=System disk=NFS=192.168.1.10:/kodi_storage ro"
It seems not working : i will retry later

Today i try with a new sandisk 8gb card and now works all correctly.
No problem on boot, no problem on reboot; all works correctly.
So the 16gb card UHS-I doesn't works correctly.
On some file i have buffering problem but i didn't investigate and i think is a network problem.
Thanks for your work :)

Hey

I likely have my terminology wrong but in the 6.95.9 release notes you call out: CPU Governor is now set to Interactive by default

does that mean i should be removing overclock settings in the autostart?

Code: Select all

echo 1200000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
echo performance > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
There is a good chance im out to lunch and the two have nothing to do with each other, but thought i would check.

thanks,

Hello guys, with hdmi display 1024x600 7 inch HDMI LCD (c) I tried various hacking with various versions which you propose for ODROID c1 +, at the end the only version that works is the 5.95.5 insegrad 15.1, now I would like to understand what are the differences with the updated versions because I would like to update your system to the latest version also why do you ask when the system starts, what has changed, because with newer versions does not work the lCD display while this has you can change some parameters in order to access the lCD panel with new versions Thanks.

is there a log i can provide ? or a setting I can do to prevent this from happening

the issue is on RC4 and final
but if i go back to 95.7 then no issue at all :/ (well at least no micro freeze)

I confirm that latest version gives me small hiccup(as you wrote micro freez) when watching any video material.
It's strange cause there ale no skipped or dropped frames. Also gui feels less snappier than previous build I've been using (95.7).

Try setting the governor to performance.

@wrxtasy :
- do you provide a github repo with the source of your project ? (something like zalaare provide ?) or a simple tar archive ?
- is there somewhere a "quick start guide" or a ready to use environnement for building ?
- can you give us some advise ? native compilation / cross compilation ?

I will try to add cec option to provide features like we have on raspberry pi

I have also problems with the latest release with a sxga (1280x1024) screen and found a thread in this forum http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=117&t=19062, which I think might be a reason. It has worked in the past, the latest version does not work, perhaps it is caused by a bug in the latest kernel patches.

Thanks for Markus response, it will mean that I'll wait a new updated version of OpenELEC hoping that solve the bug.

@MarkusR
No, the 66Hz on the 1280x1024 resolution has existed almost 1 year. It is not a new kernel bug.

does anyone knows where I can find in France or at least Europe a micro HDMI / HDMI cable known to work with C1, meaning with no Ethernet embedded (and aRC as well ?) ?
This could be the reason why I cannot switch to 24p with kodi... :(

Hi

I just installed latest OpenELEC-Odroid-C1-6.95.9.RC4 image on C1+. All video part is working like a charm, found no problems at all. But I have exernal USB DAC and I can't make kodi to play sound with it. It is NAD USB DAC which uses standard Universal Audio Class (UAC) linux driver. I can see USB DAC in Kodi audiodevices, but no matter what I chose sound is going to the HDMI. Alsa also show the device

OpenELEC:~ # aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: ODROIDHDMI [ODROID-HDMI], device 0: SPDIF PCM dit-hifi-0 []
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: Audio [NAD USB Audio], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

And I can even got sound like this:
aplay -D plughw:1,0 file.wav

But nothing from Kodi.

Appreciate any help

Just make sure it doesn't have Ethernet

https://www.google.com/search?site=&sou ... Aamazon.fr

I can't read French so that's the best I can do.

Or grab the HK one from pollin.de

You could also grab an adapter and use a standard HDMI cable.

I have a C1+. Are there any specific settings that need to be updated to allow optimal functioning of the device with Kodi? Such as buffering, video settings, audio, etc? Also, have been most focused on video, does the c1+ have any limitations on audio?

wrxtasy, thank you so much for this wonderful build! I'm loving my new C1+. I have the latest Jarvis 6.95.9 build installed, and everything is great except for one thing. I'm getting slammed by this bug, which prevents me from rebooting the device because I have NFS shared mounted using systemd mounts (my device hangs trying to unmount the NFS share):

https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/issues/4483

This was fixed in 4659:

https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/pull/4659

Will you be able to merge this fix into your builds? Right now, I have to grope around in the depths of my media cabinet to unplug the power cord when I try to reboot.... :D

Thanks for all of the great work.
I have an EDIMAX AC600 WiFi dongle (EW-7811UAC). It currently does not function under OpenELEC 6.95.9. Here is the output from lsusb:

Code: Select all

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 7392:a812 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd
It can be seen by the system since it attempts to load the driver (below)
dmesg snippet....

Code: Select all

[ 6.033333@1] 8812au: Unknown symbol wiphy_new (err 0)
[ 6.033517@1] 8812au: Unknown symbol cfg80211_del_sta (err 0)
[ 6.033594@1] 8812au: Unknown symbol cfg80211_inform_bss_frame (err 0)
Can you advise as to what the issue may be?
Thank You

I'm really interested in the Odroid C2. I currently have the Raspberry Pi 2 and was hoping the new RPi3 would have been a little beefier spec wise. The C2 looks to fit that bill. A couple of questions before I make any final decisions:

1. Does the latest version of OpenELEC posted here for the Odroid C2 support 23.976 playback? This is a must-have for me.
2. Does OpenELEC automatically update, or is it still manual on the C2 for now?
3. Will the C2 board fit in a RPi2 case?

Thanks in advance!

There is no OpenElec for 64bit ARM platform yet.
You may need to wait for a couple of months at least.

Kodi 17 alpha version works well on the C2 Android platform. It supports the auto-frame-rate on the fly for the 23.976fps video clips too.

Dear all,

I have Panasonic TV 42ST60 and Marantz NR-1506 receiver connected via HDMI2 port on TV (ARC is supported on this port).
Openelec (Odroid-C1+) box is connected to receiver, and CEC is working fine.
When I switch TV to other input (eg. to watch DVB-T) and then return to HDMI2 CEC stops working.
Then I need to power cycle receiver and CEC starts working.

Is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Wow Odroid, glad to see you have been taking Kodi Android on C2 for a spin and 23.976 are working :) . Just a few Q's...

Have you tried playing a 1080p .264 or .265 mkv with Dolby HD or DTS HD on it?
Does yours and mdrjr's Openelec work on C2?
Do you know if Netflix HD will work on C2 with Android? (I know it is not a hardware problem and the product needs to be certified by Netflix but worth checking)

Thanks

Guys Cmon....

C2 spec and support question DO NOT belong in this thread, the C2 has its own sub-forum specifically for those sort of App and Hardware support related questions. Please take all those C2 questions over there.

I do not have the time either to support USB WiFi dongles or patch the Kernel with any further USB DVB Tuners. That Kernel work is strictly HardKernels domain and responsibility. It's too time consuming, plus I do not have the Hardware to test with anyway.

OpenELEC for the C2 is posted in this thread so it kind of opens itself up to C2-related questions (see the OP). Is it posted in one of the C2 forum threads?

Update: I went back to the OP and I thought for sure the latest Feb 22 update indicated support for the C2. Was I mistaken?

I think your mistaken, probably seen the RC2 in the OP and confused it.

Regardless, C2 questions belong in the C2 section. When or if he ports it over he will post it to the appropriate subforum. Until then everyone should respect this thread.

Being snippy really doesn't help, it makes developers feel underappreciated. I'm sure wrxtasy knows what is posted in the OP.

Thank You
I also rely on this kernel module. The only way to run a fast 5GHz stick as far as I know.
2 months back I compiled a 8812au.ko module under Ubuntu that worked for version 6.95.1 to 6.95.5 (faking the kernel info string was the trick)
Unfortunately, it broke with higher Openelec versions. I just played around a bit and found a way to build a new 8812au.ko module for 6.95.9
Turned out that wrxtasy did not only changed the kernel name to 3.10.100, but the underlying version also changed. The new one seems to be based on 3.10.80-142, while the old one was based on 3.10.80-131
Long story short: you might write me a PN with an email address included and I sent you the file. It must be placed into the Configfiles folder and will be loaded at next boot then.

@wrxtasy: I fully understand that you do not have the time to compile such modules. However, would be perfect to provide us with the underlying kernel version in the future. Would have saved me quite some time finding the correct kernel version ;-)

The HardKernel supplied Kernel is pretty much the one being used in OpenELEC.
There are a few GPU driver updates to be compatible with the the recent OpenGL fbdev GUI tearing fix and that is it.

As for the version numbers, even HardKernel just number them sequentially for each Ubuntu release and they actually bear no resemblance to the core AML Kernel being used at all, as seen here from their GitHub:
https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/blo ... y/Makefile

I only use a fake the v3.10.100 so I can tell the difference from the Mainstream Hardkernel version. I have no idea what internal version number they are using for Ubuntu releases.

BTW: the HardKernel AML S8xx v3.10.80 is pretty out of date. There have been at least 3 maybe 4 updates from AMLogic to improve and fix various things in the Kernel since the C1 was released as seen in Sam Nazarko's new S805 Vero2 Kernel here:
https://github.com/osmc/vero2-linux

In HardKernels defence they have a bunch of backports and usb devices and compatible Peripherals added to their Kernel. I just wish they could update the Audio and Video drivers more often along with the HDMI parts, so I can then add features like HDMI CEC Pulse8 libCEC Kernel compatibility and patches from the OpenELEC developer gda easily. HDMI CEC compatibility which the AML Vero2 and WeTek S8xx Linux/OE Kodi devices now have.

Codesnake is the master blaster for a whole lot of AML stuff, seen here:
https://github.com/codesnake/OpenELEC.t ... r/projects

Then Zalaare has his github repo here:
https://github.com/zalaare/OpenELEC-Odroid

Zalaare also has some Tips over here:
http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=5915

I've mished and mashed stuff from both and more, but unfortunately do not use GitHub much as I've too many versions on the go at the one time.
Once OE 7.0 is actually released I will try and get organised and learn more about Github and put up a commit.
Complicating matters are Internal organisational issues within OE itself at the moment too.

---------------------------------------------

Compiled an update OE 6.95.9.1 / Kodi Jarvis 16.1rc1 - the bug fix release.
This has the requested NFS fix in it plus a 23Hz Pixel patch for the Kernel that I appear to have left out from the last few releases, so 23.976fps video sync appears to be better. Speed may be a bit quicker as well as Performance Governor has been put back in.

OpenELEC-Odroid-C1-6.95.9.1.Jarvis.16.1rc1.tar file HERE

--------------------------------------------

@thm82, If you want full EW-7811UAC support and can supply a patch I can include it in the Kernel, or alternatively alert HardKernel to your work and get them to mainline it into the Official C1 Linux Kernel.

Hello ecstasy, there is the possibility in the future to resolve the video issue I have with my 7 inch LCD HDMI 7inch LCD (C) 1024X600, the video does not hook is all black, first with older versions of a year I was able to do it work but with updates no longer works. They have said it is a kernel video driver problem. You have no idea what can I do? Thank you. PS .. I also tried the new you posted right now but it does not work the same.

This new build resolved my issues with micro freezes during video playback.
It also feels very snappy when i'm messing with gui menus... Really nice build.
Thank's wrxtasy for you're effort , you did a great job.

Hi all,

Just got my C1+ today and I have install OE 6.95.9.1 on it without any problem.
Reinstall all my config again without problem. It work like a charm except for:
- My Xbox DVD remote did'nt work. Lirc_xbox is not compiled with the kernel and I can't make it work with ir on C1+ (irrecord show signal, but irw don't event with irrecord fresh config). I would like to use my Xbox DVD IR to put my C1+ back to my TV.
- Hyperion Led work on half screen every boot, I have to unplug my lightpack, replug it and relauch Hyperion to have full screen led.

Every thing work before on my Raspberry B+ on OpenELEC 6.0.3
I'm new with ODroid so someone can help me ??

Try either of these two for the XBox remote:

Code: Select all

cp /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.xbox /storage/.config/lircd.conf
reboot
or

Code: Select all

cp /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.rpi /storage/.config/lircd.conf
reboot
As for Hyperion on AML devices have a look thru this thread for a bit of updated info:
(the Kernel is configured correctly on the C1+)

Can't make it work with this config, neither on Xbox Remote Dongle or Integrate IR Receiver.
Try both with reboot each time

Hi,

I'm looking a replacement for my rpi2.
The raspberry is quite perfect for me, except on two points: h265 support and heavy skin lags.
So I'd like to give Odroid C1+ a try, as it seems to satisfy my requirements:
  • h264/h265 1080p
  • LiveTV mpeg2 PAL
  • Framerate auto adjust
  • 2.0 downmixing (center channel boost would be a must)
  • TVHeadend kodi add-in
  • Emby kodi add-in
  • Smooth navigation with medium/heavy skin (aeon/titan/experience1080)
  • MCE USB remote
  • low consumption
  • No 4K needed
  • No 10bit needed (for now ^)
  • No 3D needed
  • No LPCM or DTS/Dolby stuff: only downmixing to my beloved stereo
Does anybody with a rpi2 have the OC1+ now?
Can you confirm my thoughts?
Thanks

Because of all the hard work from people like wrxtasy, zalaare... its not even close anymore. oDroid is the way to go, in fairness i don't think Rpi has media center PC @ the top of their list.

Grab yourself a C1 and toss the latest openelec build on it and you're laughing. **also grab yourself an oDroid C2 and in a few months when stable openelec builds come out for it you can watch in 4k (h.265) :-)

Hello there and thanks very much for a great job! My C1+ is really amazing with this OS.

However... I've been struggling with some issues. I am swedish and so we use some strange character in our language like åäö :D . Openelec seems not to use UTF-8, but rather something else, and this gives me alot of problems... rsync, rtorrent report errors because of this. This doesn't seem to be a new problem with openelec. When I google this I find numerous threads in different forums with alot of folks from non-english countries experiencing the same problems. I really dont know how to solve this myself so I'm now asking for help here.
So far I've tried alot of things like...
copying /usr/bin/locale to /storage/.config/ :D Probably an insane thing to try but I´m trying everything...
Trying to get squashfs as an addon but haven't managed to get it....

Would it be possible to add a symlink from /usr/lib/ to /storage/.config/ ??? or is there another solution?

Hello,

I recently aquired a C1+ and wrote openelec to my sd.
I have one issue :
Kodi is set up to switch refreshrate on start/stop.
When switching to 24hz I have sound drops every few seconds.
During 1/2 seconds audio cuts.

I haven't found anything relevant in dmesg, but there are some errors in kodi log.

Code: Select all

I have tried many different versions from 6.0.0 to 6.95.9 and they all have this problem.

I Have tried with several video, and couldn't play any without sound issue.

When playing them @ 60 Hz, the sound issue doesn't exist.

I still have a good old PC (Win7) with Kodi on it and I have never experienced this issue.

Also, I noticed that 24Hz is not really smooth on the C1+ compared to the PC.

Are those issues known ?
Is there some sort of magic trick to fix them ?

Thanks for your help

OK, I've solved my problem with my Xbox DVD remote.

I try a lot of config and finally, LIRC remote config make it work:
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/microsoft/

Here what I did:

Code: Select all

echo "ir-keytable -c -p LIRC" >> /storage/.config/autostart.sh
cp <file from LIRC> /storage/.config/lircd.conf
reboot
But wrxtasy, I can't make my Xbox DVD Dongle work !!! In the kodi wiki, I have to change hardware.conf to select my device:
http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Wire_your_ ... te_for_USB
But filesystem is in read only mode, how I can try ??

@ miljbee,
You could try:

Code: Select all

ssh root@ip.address.of.C1
cd .config
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27641650/ODROID/asound.conf
reboot
Then change Kodi > Settings > System > Audio Output > Output Configuration > Fixed or Best Match
Audio Output > Limit Sampling Rate (KHz) > 44.1

I'm actually think of changing to 44.1 kHz as the default setting for future releases as 48.0 seems to be causing issues.

@ mickefromhell, I really don't know how to address the Language Character issue. It does pop up from time to time, but I have not seen a solution anywhere. Sorry.

@mitch911, I have plugged this XBOX Dongle patch into the Kernel and setup some configs and will do a test version soon. I was going to suggest doing your own Lirc config for the C1 as I have a Mini Guide posted somewhere to do it easily. The Mini Guide if I remember is in one of the early pages of this thread.

@ everyone, aware of the 23.976fps sync issue. Its has not been the same excellent 24p Sync ever since the new GPU drivers went in, still testing that one. Also to get back the the 23.98, 29.97,30, 59.94 Spoofed Refresh Rate Choices for Kodi resolutions settings selections that I had in earlier Kodi versions I will have to do some re-configuring. That will happen in a seperate release once Kodi 16.2 is out.

Hi,
So what is the version to download to have the best 24p sync ?
thanks

wrxtasy wrote:@mitch911, I have plugged this XBOX Dongle patch into the Kernel and setup some configs and will do a test version soon. I was going to suggest doing your own Lirc config for the C1 as I have a Mini Guide posted somewhere to do it easily. The Mini Guide if I remember is in one of the early pages of this thread.
Thanks wrxtasy, did you know you're awesome ?? I will waiting your test version (to hide my C1+) but my system working fine now :D

You could try:

Code: Select all

ssh root@ip.address.of.C1
cd .config
wget https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27641650/ODROID/asound.conf
reboot
Then change Kodi > Settings > System > Audio Output > Output Configuration > Fixed or Best Match
Audio Output > Limit Sampling Rate (KHz) > 44.1

I'm actually think of changing to 44.1 kHz as the default setting for future releases as 48.0 seems to be causing issues.
Thanks for your help, unfortunately, it doesn't work at all. It's worse. With these settings I get no sound at all.
Reguarding the 48Hz Limit it seems from what I have tested that limiting to 44,1 always give worse results.

Is there a version that works somewhere ? I mean with no sound issue and 24p working. Even if it's not Jarvis.

Once OE 7.0 is actually released I will try and get organised and learn more about Github and put up a commit.
Complicating matters are Internal organisational issues within OE itself at the moment too.
Hi wrxtasy, thanks a lot for your tremendous contributions.

Git and Github are exactly the tools that you need for your work on OE for C1/C1+ :
- ability to juggle between different versions of your work, and to test things while keeping track (checking out between different branches / tags, comparing versions etc.)
- ability to easily merge updates/patches/contributions sent from other people of the community, while maintaining and keeping control about what gets in and what doesn't.

A good and clear explanation of Git is "Git Internals" from peepcode, it's a PDF with illustrations :
